Teresa Giudice Hit With $17K Tax Lien – Rep Says RHONJ Star Is Making ‘Timely’ Payments

Teresa Giudice is owning it! The Real Housewives of New Jersey star is doing all she can to make “timely” payments and pay off a $17k tax lien.

According to her attorney James J. Leonard Jr., Teresa Giudice is well aware of her outstanding tax debt and is working hard to resolve the issue.

Leonard tells Page Six:

“Ms. Giudice has been aware of her tax obligations for years and makes significant timely monthly payments towards her outstanding tax liabilities and will continue to do so until those liabilities do not exist.”

Court documents show that the RHONJ star was notified on May 3 that she has a new tax lien for over $17k.

Per records, Teresa Giudice looks to owe back taxes in the amounts of $14,611.41 for 2020 and $2,449.91 for 2021.

A source tells Page Six that those smaller tax liens have been settled with the IRS. However, Teresa Giudice still has outstanding IRS debts from 2014 and 2015 that total close to $500k. Those debts remain active and are currently in the process of being paid off.

This isn’t the first time Teresa Giudice has faced issues of unpaid taxes as well as other financial issues.

In 2014, the RHONJ star and her then-husband Joe Giudice pleaded guilty to federal fraud charges, “including bankruptcy fraud, conspiracy to commit mail fraud, wire fraud and failure to pay taxes.”

The former couple admitted that they hid “assets from bankruptcy creditors and submitted phony loan applications to get some $5 million in mortgages and construction loans.”

Teresa Giudice was sentenced to 11 months in prison for her crimes in October 2014. Joe was sentenced to 48 months behind bars and faced deportation to his native Italy.

A year later, in December 2015, Teresa was released from prison; however, she was soon hit with a $260k tax lien.

Over the years, Teresa has worked hard to pay off her and Joe’s outstanding debts while also taking care of their four daughters as a single mom.

Teresa vowed that “every penny owed will be paid” when it comes to her outstanding tax liabilities.

In 2022, Teresa sold the New Jersey mansion she shared with Joe Giudice for $2m. This came nearly two years after the couple divorced in September 2020 following nearly 20 years of marriage.

Teresa Giudice currently lives in a $3.3 million dollar Montville mansion with her new husband, Louie Ruelas.

Part two of the Real Housewives of New Jersey season 13 reunion airs on Tuesday, June 6.

I wish I had never started. I started midway through and of the three I semi-watched I thought of NJ as the trashiest. Danielle was on then and kind of took the attention from how despicable Teresa really was. Now I'm watching old ones and it is pitiful. I'm on the episodes where she was selling stories to tabloids to disparage (with lies!) friends and family who happen to also be co-workers. I'm seeing what a slime her husband is and also how obnoxious Gia and Milania are. I didn't realize Gia was so bad so it now makes sense why she's been awful the past 2 seasons (now that she's being paid).

They must have wanted to get ahead of it by leaving out the most important info reported which was the $17,000 was an added Penalty for not making a payment on a current debt of $1,096,12.14. It wasn't that she made a payment on $17, 000 or any payment! I really can only think of one reason why a site would twist it that way while providing all the other details that I also saw on news sites (not blogs).

I don't get it. Theresa has all these back taxes but she spends 10k on her hair for the wedding, needless to say all the other needless stuff she had at the wedding. It just seems that all that tax money could have been paid off already, but she needs to live the lavish lifestyle. How can she get away with that? We all see the trips she goes on with the ladies. We see the things she buys, we saw the invitations for her wedding, and the dancers and the dresses, the hair, the parties ,the outfits... I mean, seems like she could have done without that stuff to pay her taxes. Anyone of us would have had to. Just sayin

The article leaves out the basic important fact. The $17,000 was a lien for refusing to pay on the 2020 and 2021 Federal IRS income tax bills in addition to previous years making the total owed on federal income tax close to $1.1 million. The following sums it up without the excuses and positive spin plus including the total still OWED that wasn't included in this blog. **********"The RHONJ star, 51, received the penalty on April 19 for allegedly neglecting to pay off her debt in the years 2020 and 2021. Yes. This is something ongoing but happened to get attention. If it is real estate taxes, she probably never intended to pay it. What does she care since she left the house in 2021. Meanwhile the interest and penalties piled on. I don't get how someone could buy it without the taxes getting paid so maybe it isn't real estate. ? NJ might be different than where I live. EDIT: I checked the county website and it isn't real estate taxes. It is federal income taxes for several years totaling almost $1.1 million according to the article. There are liens on property (that she no longer has) for unpaid federal income taxes going back to 2014. I started adding the unpaid years and quit at over $600,000. Some of the liens are in Joe Giudice's name, too.

Usually the buyer pays and the seller ends up with what is left. I don't get how she could sell it unless it was such an expensive monstrosity, the county or banks or whatever worked a deal. It is a mystery. OR maybe it is income tax and she worked a deal but why would the county be involved.... EDIT It is over a million in federal income tax that is owed. The county records the federal lien on her property because she hasn't paid her taxes. However she doesn't likely own any property. The house she lives in is owned by an LLC that Luis "owns".

The $17,000 is just a penalty for not making any payment on an over million dollar debt. What else can she do? Skip a few vacations and make large payments on the over a million dollar debt instead of being low life and expecting honest people who pay taxes to cover them so they can live in a mansion and buy all kinds of expensive crap! She showed off her "landscaping" that was hundreds of thousands and quite ordinary. Ask her wonderful husband to at least make payments so she doesn't get the enormous penalties for not paying anything! So next will we find out the taxpayers funded Gia and soon Gabriella's college because she shows more debt than income on paper? Ha.

If it is what it looks like, real estate taxes not paid since at least 2020, she doesn't care and doesn't intend to pay because she was trying to sell it and did sell in Feb 2022. So they can't take her house away for non payment. There probably was a balance before 2020 and since she paid nothing, the interest and penalties piled up.

How about not getting into so much debt in the first place? If you pay all the taxes owed each year, there's no problem. Don't live beyond your means and you'll be able to pay. This is basic common sense.

I believe they owed 1.7M on that mortgage when Teresa went to jail. She sold it then in 2021 for 2M so I doubt there was much equity because she had restitution and other debts to pay over the years too. So it makes one wonder how much exactly she put in to that new house with Luis.

If there was still a large mortgage on the property, which is likely, she probably had little equity in the home, so she probably walked away with little from the sale.

I don’t know if I believe that. Before Teresa met Louie she was considering and looking for another house for her family which she wouldn’t have done if she had little equity. Also, it was settled in the divorce decree with Joe that she would keep the proceeds from the house since she paid off Joe’s debt.

She met Luis in late summer 2020. He bought a mansion and put it in an LLC in Jan. 2021. She moved in with him that year. She sold her house Feb 2022 after dropping the price considerably. Maybe she'll be the one taking him to the cleaners!

Meanwhile her boyfriend bought a $3.35 million house that she lives in and put it in an LLC under his name. PK and Dorit seem to be the people who live off the generosity of his wealthy friends from his pre bankruptcy life and moving in the right circles - the PJs are borrowed or they are tagging along. Dorit now buys second hand designer clothes under the guise of being "vintage". Their last home was owned by someone else and their existing property seems to have many lenders.

I happened to look at it and I was shocked at the high cost. I really thought it would be mid range but I think it was 6th highest. Is it because wealthy New York people live there? I don't get it.

NJ taxes have always been high but now the market value is ridiculously high and our taxes are going to get worse for the end of the year and into next year. Homes around me are selling for 600k and they are normally worth around 350-400.

The $17k is just the penalty for not making a payment. So it is in addition to the debt and other penalties for non payment. Yet a wedding for 1/2 a million and out of country vacations are necessities. They should have garnished the bravo income last year instead of messing around with her any longer.

The IRS can file a tax lien even if you have a payment arrangement that’s being fulfilled. So there’s no evidence that she wasn’t making her payments. As far as a million dollars in debt, that’s a hard pill to swallow for recent years of 2020 and 2021. As far as Louie paying for it, since it’s both of their second marriage it’s very likely they keep their bills and premarital debt separate. Also, I probably wouldn’t quote The Sun, they’re a disreputable tabloid.

I looked it up on the Morris County site. It is federal income taxes not paid and not real estate like I thought. There are liens on property but she doesn't own any property. So that is why the house is in an LLC under Luis' name! There was one year that had been paid. There were 13 general liens and I looked at the US Government ones. I can see how it would add up to close to $1.1 million in unpaid federal income taxes. There is zero excuse for living beyond an extravagant lifestyle and owing over a million in federal income taxes, IMO.

The Morris County Clerks Office would be easy to check about the million in debt so sounds like real estate taxes. The article omitted that part when they could have disputed it if not true!!! UPDATE: I checked and it is all federal income tax she hasn't paid. Since it started back in 2014 with the latest additional $17,000 for 2020 and 2021, I guess she doesn't have to worry about it.

I did go to the Morris County Property Search and there are tax liens against property for not paying federal income taxes since at least 2014. The $17,000 was just the total for 2020 and 2021 that is owed. Since she doesn't own the mansion she is living in, I guess she has nothing for the IRS to take for non-payment. Apparently she has gone at least 7 years owing and nothing happened even though it is close to $1.1 million. (Earlier years include Joe).
