Tom Schwartz confirmed via his Instagram stories that they were working on reopening it by sharing a video of the bar with the caption “TomTom coming back to life.” The video showed the establishment’s exterior along with an indoor shot of the steampunk décor and the clock that the bar has become known for. Take a look at the shots below:
According to The Blast, manager Richardson Cherry promised that “We are definitely opening May 1st.” With that right around the corner, there is no doubt a staff working day and night as he added, “cleaning a year’s worth of dust and such is a process. It’s a lot to clean; it’s been a full year [so] we are working around the clock to get TomTom ready.”
Fans will undoubtedly be relieved as it was rumored that the bar might be closed for good with other establishments opening at a lesser capacity. Google didn’t help the rumors when it marked the bar as “permanently closed,” although it could have been listed that way due to being closed due to Covid for an entire year.
Cherry had explained that TomTom was taking longer than other restaurants to open as “We’re more bar than sit-down restaurant type. Also, our patio isn’t that big.” With restrictions being eased in many places, it makes sense that TomTom may finally see daylight again.
This has been a devastating year for the restaurant industry, so I’m hoping that they get a boom of business to help the staff that no doubt took a big loss this past year.
Are you happy to hear that TomTom is reopening?
