It seems that it’s about the get a whole lot more real on the Real Housewives of Orange County. Back in January we reported that MLB star Josh Hamilton’s wife Katie would be joining the RHOC as one of the two new Housewives in season 10. Reports are now surfacing that Katie and Josh plan on bringing a lot of realness to the reality show. And that their storyline may surround Josh’s substance abuse problems.
The MLB star is currently recovering from an injury and is facing possible suspension from playing baseball due to a relapse with cocaine and alcohol.
Josh and Katie were cast on RHOC before all of the recent drama happened in their life. Sine they are in the middle of filming the show they may have no choice but to deal with Josh’s substance abuse issues on camera.
RHOC can’t get any realer by featuring Josh’s chronic substance abuse, but this wouldn’t be the first time the show would deal with the issue.
Apparently Josh has struggled with substance abuse issues since 2003 and has relapsed several times in conjunction to being suspended from baseball during the times he was using.
When they announced, Katie would be a new Housewife I thought it would be interesting to have an athlete’s wife be on the show. I didn’t know anything about the Hamilton’s beside Josh being a professional baseball player. While I’m all about the cast of the Housewives’ franchises being real and showing true problems, they are dealing with I think Josh’s issues might be too real for the show. I just can’t imagine this family dealing with this issue on reality TV because it’s such a tough thing to go through, in general. Hopefully, this issue won’t be Katie’s only storyline and that her other storylines will be happier and lighter.
Do you think Josh Hamilton’s substance abuse issues with a storyline on RHOC? Do you think it’s a good idea for the Real Housewives’ shows to document substance abuse or is it too heavy for reality TV? Are you looking forward to seeing Katie and Josh join RHOC?
