Andy Cohen Explains Why Vanderpump Rules Is Pausing Production

Andy Cohen dishes on "compelling" Vanderpump Rules season 11 reunion.

Bravo’s Andy Cohen is spilling the tea on why the network is pressing pause on production for season 12 of Vanderpump Rules.

On the Wednesday, May 1 episode of Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM radio show, Andy Cohen Live, the Watch What Happens Live host explained why Bravo was putting production for season 12 of Vanderpump Rules on hold for the summer.

If you’re a longtime Vanderpump Rules fan you know that the show notoriously always films May through August. However, this summer that won’t be happening.

Andy’s co-host John Hill first broached the gossip surrounding Vanderpump Rules, saying, “Do you want to comment on “Vanderpump Rules” briefly pausing production, not filming this summer, giving the cast a break.”

“Well, I saw that. As y’all know, I don’t produce Vanderpump Rules,” Andy noted.

He continued, “Yeah, we used to do this all the time with the Housewives. We would say, “You know what? Let’s put cameras down for, you know, four or five months and come back to them,” and they will have lived, you know, life. Things will be different. I think that, you know, I was talking to Ariana about this on the after show last night. I was saying, people do forget, especially as it relates to Ariana, who was the one cheated on.”

“People forget that we picked up cameras a few, three months after she found out about that affair, so that’s why she’s still in the violently angry stage and you can understand that, so I always think it’s great. Look, sometimes you want to pick cameras right up quickly because there’s stuff happening and you want to get in there right away and sometimes you do want people to live their lives and see how things develop and you know, so, I think it’s a very good idea.”

TMZ was the first to report that Bravo was shaking up its production timeline for season 12 of Pump Rules. Sources say producers want the cast to do their own thing for a bit instead jumping right back into filming; noting that they hope this can help feul new storylines and drama.

The source insists Vanderpump Rules has not been canceled. Filming for season 12 is expected to pickup in the next six months to a year.

Meanwhile, a separate souce told Page Six, “Everyone needs a moment to decompress after two very rough, intense seasons. The cast is looking forward to a break from filming the show.”

“Producers are excited to catch up with everyone when cameras eventually go back up,” the insider added.

It’s unclear if the entire cast of Vanderpump Rules will be asked back for season 12 or if the network plans to shake things up. Only time will tell.

Stay tuned for more on this developing story.

Vanderpump Rules airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo.

Obviously, VPR is back to the failure it was before it was temporarily goosed by the Bravo-inspired Scandoval. I expect VPR is really going by the wayside -- finally!

Can AC ever just cut the crap? The ratings were down and everyone (including the viewers) needs a break. No crimes were committed.

Probably because everyone is over the tired Ariana & Tom storyline. Move. On. Already. (and preferably without Katie). I do hope they get some of LaLa's pregnancy though.
