RHONJ’s Melissa Gorga Reveals Recent Health Issues

RHONJ's Melissa Gorga

RHONJ star Melissa Gorga has opened up about some recent health issues she’s been dealing with and the treatments she’s currently undergoing.

On a recent episode of her podcast, On Display with Melissa Gorga, the RHONJ star shared that she “recently found out that [she is] severely anemic.”

The RHONJ star explained that Bravo made her do a “health check” before filming for season 14, which is when she found out some scary news.

According to Melissa, she initally decided not to get blood work done but later changed her mind. After getting the blood work done, Melissa says her doctor called her with bad news.

The 44-year-old explained that “something’s off” with her test results and that she was referred to a hematologist. It was later determined that she had severe anemia, so much so that she was at risk of needing a blood transfusion.

Melissa Gorga gets emotional on RHONJ

“Let me just explain what anemia is. It’s a condition in which the body does not have enough healthy red blood cells and those are very important because red blood cells provide oxygen to your body, so it’s really what keeps the blood flowing. It keeps the air flowing,” Melissa shared on her podcast.

The RHONJ star continued, “It sounds like it’s not a big deal, anemia, right? Because everyone is like, ‘Oh, just take iron, and you’ll be better.’ But people have strokes because of it, brain aneurysms, there’s things that happen when people don’t catch that they have anemia. And it’s not easy to catch unless you get blood work.”

“I’m getting infused once a week. And I do feel better after I have an infusion. But I definitely need a ton more. My doctor said, ‘If you can do it twice a week, let’s do it.’ Because we need to like back my body up with that. But that’s a little scary thing,” the mom of three said.

Bravo made her do a “health check”. I think I heard in a video/podcast that the cast is supposed to get a health check. Now if that's the case, how about everyone get a psyche check?!

It's hard for me to believe anything Meliar says! She may have had a low RBC count from a standard CBC blood test. I don't believe everything else she said about the weekly blood transfusions. I'm surprised Meliar didn't release her severe anemic diagnosis sooner, when she found out. Instead she waited until Bravocon!?! I think Meliar wants attention & pity. JMO.

My mistake, I thought Melissa was saying she had weekly blood transfusions. Melissa apparently gets weekly infusions, iron I assume.

Having anemia is no joke, it’s serious. I hope this gets under control and Melissa feels better very soon.

Exactly. I too was at risk for transfusion . If my count went under I think it was like 7.0? Put on iron and pill to stop period blood loss ( sorry lol) until hysterectomy. Also sorry if comment appears twice !

My cousin has anemia and it's handled easily with supplements and diet.
