Jim Edmonds and Meghan King’s divorce was MESSY so it’s not surprising to hear that the former MLB star didn’t run and tell his ex-wife about his engagement to Kortnie O’Connor.
“Meghan did not hear about their engagement until weeks after it happened,” an insider told Us Weekly after the proposal news went public on Thursday, August 12. “She has very little communication with Jim and if they talk at all, it’s about their kids.”
The exes split in October 2019 after five years of marriage. They share daughter Aspen, 4, and twin sons Hart and Hayes, 3.
Jim popped the question to Kortnie, who he’s been dating since January 2020, sometime in the last two months. Kortnie was first spotted rocking an engagement ring in early July.
Kortnie then teased the happy news in a post via Instagram on Thursday, August 12.
“They are living their life privately and are enjoying this exciting new chapter,” a second insider said of the newly engaged couple.
Meanwhile, the former Real Housewives of Orange County star and her ex-husband have a“very strained” relationship. Due to this, they don’t tend to “discuss personal stuff” with one another.
“Kortnie and Jim are a private couple, to begin with. They don’t like to dwell on the past and try to not let Jim’s last marriage affect their relationship,” the first source noted.
While Meghan and Jim aren’t on the best of terms, the former reality TV star is happy for her ex-husband because she ultimately wants what is “best for her kids.”
“Meghan likes Kortnie in the sense that she’s glad Jim found someone to be in a serious relationship with so that her kids can have a stable environment when they’re with him,” the insider added. “She wouldn’t consider Kortnie someone she’s friends with — they just get along for the sake of the kids.”
RHOC is expected to return for season 16 in late 2021 or early 2022.
