Real Housewives of Miami returned for season 4 and revealed some major secrets – one being that Alexia Echevarria’s ex-husband Herman was gay and had a longtime lover before he died of a heart attack in 2016 at the age of 61.
Now, Alexia admits that she wishes Herman could have come out when they were married.
“I would have loved for him to have come out and had this conversation because I would have supported him and helped him,” Alexia revealed during an interview with S’More Date. “And hooked him up with all my cute gay friends!”
During season 4 of RHOM, Alexia revealed that she had questioned Herman about his sexuality during their marriage as she had doubts that he was straight however according to her he always denied it.
“I actually confronted him because I did have a suspicion and he lied to me and said, ‘No, if I wanted that, I could have done that, but I never wanted that. I’m happy with you, I’m happy with my marriage,’” she explained. “‘If that’s the direction I would’ve wanted, I could have done that but it’s totally not true.’”
Eventually, she ended up talking with Herman’s lover in order to get answers about her ex’s secret life.
“I wanted to have some kind of closure,” she admitted.
Meanwhile, in a separate interview with Page Six, the RHOM star addressed Bravo fans of comparing her to Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice.
“Am I the only one that thinks Alexia and Teresa look like they could be sisters? #RHOM #RHONJ,” one fan tweeted while another added, “Alexia being compared to Teresa makes sense now since both of them are Tauruses and the main girls in their respective shows #RHOM #RHONJ.”
According to Alexia, her husband, Todd Nepola, first caught wind of the comparisons.
“‘Babe, they don’t mean physically,’” Alexia told her husband about fans comparing her to Teresa. “They mean, like, my character, and all the adversity that we’ve gone through, and that we’re such strong women, and we’re good moms. We have a lot of similarities.”
“But not that we physically look alike, because we don’t,” she added. “If we did, that’s fine, too, but [Nepola] didn’t get that.”
“She’s a very strong woman,” Alexia says of the RHONJ OG. “She’s had to overcome so much, but she still gets back up on her feet, she keeps ongoing, and I’m very happy for her that she found love again.”
While Alexia has never met Teresa she praises the OG Housewife for how she’s handled the recent posts about her fiancé Louie Ruelas’ past.
“This is what we signed up to do,” she explains. “It’s her narrative, it’s her story. She should be able to say how it really happened because nobody knows her life more than she does, which is the same thing I say about my life.”
RHOM is currently streaming on NBC’s Peacock app.
