Heartbreaking news out of the ATL.
NeNe Leakes’ husband Gregg Leakes has died after battling colon cancer. He was only 66 years old.
Gregg died “peacefully” in his home while surrounded by his family. Longtime family friend, Ernest Dukes, confirmed Gregg’s passing in a statement on Wednesday.
“Today, the Leakes family is in deep pain with a broken heart. After a long battle with cancer, Gregg Leakes has passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by all of his children, very close loved ones, and wife Nene Leakes,” said Dukes.“We ask that you pray for peace and strength over their family & allow them to mourn in private during this very, very difficult time.”
Over the weekend, the Real Housewives of Atlanta OG told patrons of The Linnethia Lounge in Duluth, Georgia, “My husband is transitioning to the other side.”
In 2018, Gregg was diagnosed with Stage 3 Colon Cancer. He had been in remission for two years; however, in June 2021, NeNe revealed that Gregg’s cancer had returned.
“It’s difficult,” she said during an Instagram Live at the time. “He’s super small. If you’ve ever been around somebody who’s had cancer before, he’s different. He’s different.”
The couple wed in 1997. They divorced in 2011 before remarrying in June 2013. They share one son, Brentt Leakes, 22.
Gregg’s passing has rocked the Bravoverse. Andy Cohen and several RHOA stars paid tribute to Gregg following the news of his death.
“I jokingly called him ‘Pastor Leakes,’ but in truth, he was a strong voice of reason & commanded great respect among the entire #RHOA team. I am sending love and strength to @neneleakes & the entire Leakes family,” Andy wrote.
“Truly heartbreaking news Love and prayers for dear Nene & the Leakes family #Speechless We love you Greg #FuckCancer,” Porsha Williams shared on Instagram.
Cynthia Bailey wrote, “So many good times & so many amazing memories. Gregg was always so loving, funny & kind. So blessed to have had him in my life. Sending my heartfelt condolences to @NeNeLeakes and her family. Thinking of you & my heart and prayers are with you.”
She later added, “Heartbroken. This is one of my favorite photos of us. It brings back such fond memories. It was @itsmikehill birthday & we invited a few of our friends over for a last-minute gathering at Lake Bailey. Out of nowhere,….”
“Always the voice of reason. [Heartbroken] Sending all my love to @neneleakes and your family,” Kim Zolciak shared on her Instagram Story.
Former RHONY star Dorinda Medley also shared her condolences.
“Wanted to send my condolences and support to @NeNeLeakes Loss is a journey no one wants to take. I pray you are surrounded by family and love ones. Rest in eternal peace, Gregg,” Dorinda wrote.
Meanwhile, Gregg and NeNe’s son Brentt encouraged people to spend time with their loved ones while they can.
In a now-expired post, captured by The Shade Room, Brentt wrote, “Spend time with your loved ones every chance you get. Time is so…valuable, dog. I can’t express it. I’m learning the hard way watching my dad fight every day. Please go create memories with ya people.”
