Kelly Dodd Addresses Cameo Controversy; Insists She’s Not Transphobic and Doesn’t Hate on Anyone – Asks For Others to be ‘Tolerant’ of her ‘Strong Opinions’

Kelly Dodd is addressing her recent Cameo controversy that left many dubbing her transphobic.

The former Real Housewives of Orange County star posted a lengthy video statement on IGTV insisting that she wasn’t transphobic after she was caught mocking the use of pronouns in a Cameo video.

In the video, Kelly said that pronouns are bullshit because you’re “born either a girl or a boy.” She adds that she doesn’t care if her comments rub people the wrong way because she’s already been fired from RHOC.

Of course, Kelly’s hubby Rick Leventhal is in the video as well and praises her for “not giving a f–k.”

“Jennifer, so, they switched up this Cameo bullshit, right? They say this is Jennifer, she/her. Okay, I don’t get this. You’re either a girl or a boy. You’re born a girl or a boy. I don’t get it. You’re Jennifer,” she ranted.

On Thursday, Kelly posted an apology after receiving tons of backlash for her comments.

“I’ve been doing Cameos now for two years, and I never saw the pronoun thing before,” she explained on Instagram. “This was the first time I saw a reference of he/him/she/they/them. I grew up, I grew up in Arizona with people who were born a boy and a girl and maybe a hermaphrodite here and there.”

She continued, “When I was reading the Cameo I saw the pronouns, and we’d been drinking, and I was just reacting in my own raw and unfiltered way. I want to be very, very clear about this. That I accept everyone for who they are. I accept everyone for who they want to be and who they believe themselves to be, and I don’t hate on anyone. I’m not transphobic. I was just unfamiliar with the language.”

The former OC Housewife then insisted that people need to be “tolerant” of her and her “very strong opinions.”

“If you want me to be tolerant, then you also need to be tolerant of me. That’s only fair. And I’m learning, and I’m growing, and maybe you can help me with this,” she added.

RHOC is expected to return for season 16 in late 2021 or early 2022.
