The HBIC of SUR recently appeared on the January 11 episode of Dear Media’s “The Skinny Confidential Him & Her” podcast. She reflected on their firings while denying that any of her former employees are racist.
“It wasn’t right what they did at all,” Lisa admitted. “But do I think they’re racist a thousand percent? No.”
She continued, “I have a lot of diverse people working for me that they [were] very close to over the years. Do I think it was a racist action? No, not at all. I just think it was just awful timing and stupid and ignorant.”
Lisa also noted that she doesn’t listen to every interview her employees give, joking, “it’d be a full-time job.”
However, she pointed out, “You can’t be cavalier just because you’re young and unaware.”
Bravo fired Stassi and Kristen in June 2020 after it came to light that they called the cops on their former co-star Faith Stowers and falsely accused her of theft. Max Boyens and Brett Caprioni were also fired after their past racially charged tweets were unearthed.
Lisa went on to say that while Stassi and Kristen got into their fair share of trouble on and off Vanderpump Rules, she believed they could change. She added that she thinks the price they paid for their mistakes was too steep.
“I think reality television is quite a good place to learn,” the former RHOBH star said. “I don’t like this cancel culture either. Of course, I do think sometimes people should be punished … and actions do have consequences, but I think people can grow from their mistakes.”
She noted James Kennedy as a prime example.
“It was a complete nightmare, and then you see suddenly he comes out of that, like, a butterfly coming out of a cocoon where he’s suddenly — he’s not exactly a butterfly — but he’s definitely, you see him making progress, and I think [to] see progress in youngsters is a wonder,” she said.
Meanwhile, Andy Cohen recently hinted that he regrets Bravo firing Kristen and Stassi, saying their dismissals were “decisions for that moment.”
He added, “It’s more interesting to sit in the moment with people that you have a rooting interest in and watch them find their way than it is just turning out the lights and forgetting it existed.”
I have to point out; Pump Rules hasn’t begun filming, so why couldn’t Bravo just bring Stassi and Kristen back for season 9. Or if they are moving the show in a new direction, why not give the OG castmembers a new show following their lives as newlyweds and parents.
It’s unclear when or if Bravo will begin filming for season 9 of Vanderpump Rules.
