Meghan King is hoping for the best as she closes the chapter on a challenging year.
In a new interview with Us Weekly, the former Real Housewives of Orange County star admits she hopes to finalize her divorce from estranged husband Jim Edmonds in 2021. She also opens up about feeling “lonely” despite having so much good in her life.
“Getting divorced would be great,” Meghan confessed. “That’s such a morbid thing to think about [and] to look forward to, but it’s funny how things change.”
Meghan and Jim married in 2014 and share three children – daughter Aspen, 4, and twin sons Hart and Hayes, 2. The former reality TV couple split in October 2019 after five years of marriage. Amid their split, the former OC Housewife accused Jim of being unfaithful with their children’s nanny. Jim and the nanny both denied the allegations.
Their divorce and custody arrangement quickly turned messy amid the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. Eventually, Meghan moved on with now ex-boyfriend Christian Schauf, who she started dating in Spring 2020. On the other hand, Jim moved on in January 2020 when he began dating Meghan’s former friend and the couple’s alleged former threesome partner Kortnie O’Connor.
On November 30, Meghan announced her split from Schauf after fans noticed that Meghan mentioned on Instagram that “no one is moving in” to her new house in St. Louis besides her and her three kids.
“After a terrible split from my ex-husband, I learned how to heal. I then met and dated a wonderful man: Christian. We laughed, went on adventures, made a long-distance relationship a thing of beauty, grew together, and then … well, we grew apart,” Meghan wrote in a blog post.
Now, Meghan admits being a single mom has been challenging at times, especially during the holidays. As we previously reported, Meghan opened up about her “hard” holiday season in a post on Instagram.
Meghan explains to Us Weekly that her kids were with Jim on Christmas morning, which made the holiday “really depressing.”
The former reality star also reveals that she’s “lonely” and wants “somebody to share” her life with.
“I mean, I’m an adult who’s been driven by societal expectations for 36 years,” she added. “It’s just hard to one day decide that that’s not what I’m going to do anymore. … I’m single. I have a new house. I’m all by myself in it. On one hand, I’m so proud, and I feel incredibly empowered, and on the other hand, I’m lonely. I want somebody to share this life that I’ve built with me.”
Meghan is currently dipping her toe back in the dating pool and hopes to expand her horizons in 2021.
“I’m getting involved with a nonprofit that builds seamstress factories for women around the world. I’m particularly interested in an area in Africa,” she explained. “I’m going to make that one of my missions for 2021. I’m really excited about helping others or helping others while helping myself too, which I think is a huge part of being a newly single woman. … I feel empowered by helping others. Therefore, it helps propel me forward.”
Speaking of 2021, Meghan also hopes to build a relationship with Jim’s new girlfriend Kortnie for the sake of her kids.
While Meghan doesn’t currently have any type of relationship with Kortnie she tells Us Weekly she “wish[es]” she did.
“I think it would be best for the kids,” she explained. “I’ve been a stepmom, and I know that the way that I approached that role is the children will always love their mother the most and the best, no matter what. My kids can only be enriched by the love of as many people as possible. I fully support any woman, or person in general, in their life who loves my children and treats them their own.”
As for her and Jim, they don’t “mix” their custody.
“Time with the kids is our own time,” she revealed.
The Real Housewives of Orange County airs on Wednesdays at 9 pm EST on Bravo.
