So far we’ve learned that Elizabeth Vargas loves to talk about two things: Her ex-husband and money. Since the newest OC housewife is so far known for talking about her wealthy ex-husband, it is odd that we don’t know much more about him. Turns out – he’s no stranger to the camera himself and has appeared on a popular reality show in the past!
Elizabeth’s ex, Bernt Bodal, was a guest on the hit reality show ‘Undercover Boss’ which has CEO’s disguise themselves to see what working at their company is really like. Bernt is an American Businessman (and musician) who is the former CEO and shareholder of American Seafoods – one of the largest seafood companies in North America. It is reported that his net worth is around $200 million.
In a Businesswire article, Bernt described disguising himself and temporarily moving from CEO to an average employee, on both a catcher-processor boat and a processing plant. Regarding the experience, Bernt stated:
“During the production of the episode, I was able to appreciate first-hand the hard work and the dedication of American Seafoods’ employees, both on our vessels and at our New Bedford processing operations. While I had my start in this business as a deck-hand, returning “undercover” as CEO and majority owner was a totally different experience. It reminded me that what our employees do is hard, physical work, but the reward – healthy seafood from sustainable fisheries – is well worth it.”
During his assignment at sea, Bernt learned more about the personal lives of his employees, and as a result, provided internet access to all of the employees on the company vessels so that they could stay in touch with family and friends back home. Regarding his decision, Bodal stated, “It was technically challenging, but it will definitely make the life on board the vessels better for our employees.”
The Emmy award-winning show reminded Bodal “to appreciate the jobs our employees perform, not all of them pleasant, to make the great products we market around the world.” You can watch the episode starring Bernt Bodal here; however, you must be a CBS subscriber to view it.
Elizabeth and Bernt were married for around 20 years; however, the marriage ended due to Bodal reportedly fathering a child with another woman, despite him telling Vargas that he did not want children. Another random fact is that Bernt is also a bass guitarist who has played with Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam. Who knew?
Can I just say that I would love to see a Housewife show in the ‘Undercover Boss’ style so that ‘wives take on regular jobs to see how the rest of the world lives?!
