Bethenny Frankel Talks Real Housewives Casting Shakeups; Says Andy Cohen ‘Rewards’ the Housewives’ ‘Bad Behavior’

B Real!

In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight Canada, Bethenny Frankel is giving her two cents on the recent casting shakeups rocking the Real Housewives universe.

The former Real Housewives of New York star also calls out her good friend and former boss Andy Cohen for rewarding the Real Housewives for their bad behavior, a precedent she says must stop.

Over the past year or so, we’ve seen some major casting shakeups occur on almost all of the Real Housewives franchises.

RHOBH lost Lisa Vanderpump in June 2019, while two months later, Bethenny Frankel quit RHONY the night before filming began for season 12. In January 2020, Bravo fired Vicki Gunvalson and Tamra Judge from RHOC. More recently, RHOA OG NeNe Leakes announced her departure but not before claiming she was pushed off the franchise.

Denise Richards walked away from RHOBH in September after two seasons following failed contract negotiations with Bravo. Teddi Mellencamp, on the other hand, recently admitted Bravo fired her. Dorinda Medley was also not given the option of returning to RHONY for season 13.

According to Bethenny, all of these casting changes are Bravo’s attempt to right the ship.

“There’s a shakeup across Real Housewives. I feel like the inmates are running the asylum,” Bethenny confessed.

She continued, “The concept of the show is that bad behavior gets rewarded. You know, it’s like the upside down.”

Bethenny added, “I said to Andy, to his face, ‘You can’t reward bad behavior. We’re still technically employees.’”

“Money drives the whole machine. Any woman who tells you they’re doing the Housewives and it’s not because of the money is lying,” she concluded.

I agree with Bethenny, but Real Housewives has always been about encouraging lousy behavior. If there wasn’t bad behavior, there wouldn’t be drama; however, some bad behavior crosses the line and shouldn’t be tolerated. I don’t think things won’t truly change until Bravo gets rid of all its bad apples. You can’t just fire a few to prove a point while letting others stick around and line your pockets. There are plenty of problematic Housewives and Bravolebs that Bravo could and should get rid of, but they don’t because these people make them money.

RHONY will return to Bravo for season 13 in 2021.
