Millions have been affected by the economic downturn caused by the pandemic, and not even the Real Housewives are immune to the devastating financial impact.
RHONY’s Sonja Morgan has struggled financially for years; however recently thought things may be taking a turn for the better after signing a deal with Century 21, as the retailer was going to carry her struggling clothing line: Sonja, by Sonja Morgan.
“I found a family there and a home for my collection. All these years I was looking for the right place.” Sonja went on to state that she felt the “rug has been pulled from under” her, and she added that she’d turned down other retailers, but “felt safe with [Century 21].”
Despite it being a huge blow for her finances and brand, Sonja said what she was most disappointed in was the opportunity to help others as:
“I was going to be Chief Lifestyle Officer taking people on shopping sprees. Helping people who have gone through a hard time before the pandemic.”
She added, “I was going to be helping people at this point in my life — that’s what I was looking forward to. It was going to be soul food to make me feel better on a day-to-day level. It was not just about raising millions. I was just going to go on a day-to-day level with Century 21, and help people with a $500 shopping spree.”
Sonja couldn’t hide her heartbreak as she can’t even go to the store one last time to think about what could have been as she left the interview saying:
“I don’t plan on going to Century 21 for a last [time]. I can’t even bring myself to do that.”
Retail and restaurants have taken a huge hit during the pandemic so I’m not shocked that Century 21 is closing their stores. Hopefully, Sonja can find another home for her international/lifestyle/luxury brand. If not – maybe she can bring the toaster oven back?
RHONY Reunion part two airs Thursday on Bravo.
