Candiace Dillard thinks that people are finally starting to pay attention to the Real Housewives of Potomac due to the headline-making drama between her and Monique Samuels.
“I am really of the mindset of, ‘Well, duh. Of course, we’re an amazing show! Like, thank you for finally noticing!’ Yes, I absolutely feel that way,” Candiace said on the August 12 episode of the “Reality Life with Kate Casey” podcast.
She continued, “I honestly believe that it was the loss of control by Monique that really gave the show more headlines. People were intrigued by someone who appeared to be so — contained, put together, poised — how could it get to the point where Candiace is pressing charges?”
Back in November 2019, Candiace and Monique both attempted to file assault charges against each other. However, the charges were later dropped by the Maryland state attorney’s office.
These charges were the result of a physical altercation that occurred between Monique and Candiace in October while filming season 5 of RHOP.
Candiace now reveals that she hasn’t filmed with Monique since the altercation occurred. She also has no plans to film with Monique in the future; this declaration puts Bravo in a sticky situation.
“No, I am not taping another season with her,” she said. “I will not be doing that. Everyone knows that. That has been made clear. I will never film another season of any show with someone who can do what she did, and then conduct themselves in the aftermath of what she did the way that she did.”
Meanwhile, Candiace says that she believes the franchise’s name may have confused people and deterred them from watching the show.
“I just think number one, ‘Potomac’ is the only city/state in the ‘Housewives’ franchises that is not a common name,” she explained. “People couldn’t even pronounce Potomac. I remember watching ‘The Real’ one day, and Adrienne Bailon was talking about us, and she’s like, ‘Yeah, ‘The Real Housewives of Poto-mac’ and I was like, ‘What?’ But I really do believe that the name sort of made it harder for the audience to play catch up.”
Candiace also says she appreciates the effort made by the OG Potomac Housewives. It turns out that after season 1 of RHOP, the cast didn’t know if the show would be renewed for a second season.
“I remember being like, ‘What’s going to happen?’ cause I’ve watched from the beginning because I was excited about a second all-black ensemble cast on Bravo. So I think that they had to really push and fight to ensure that we could get to where we are today, and here we are – season 5. I think Season 4 is really when we started to sink our teeth into everyone, and now we’re solidly on the map. Season 5 has done that.”
I think Candiace is going to regret claiming she will never film with Monique again. Monique lives in Potomac and lives the lifestyle they want on the show plus fans love her. I don’t think Candiace wants to back Bravo into a corner and make them choose because they might not pick her at the end of the day, especially with her most recent scandal.
The Real Housewives of Potomac airs on Sundays at 9/8c on Bravo.
