During season 1 of the Real Housewives of New York, Jill Zarin sent her then 14-year-old daughter Ally Shapiro to a weight loss/detox camp on Martha’s Vineyard to help reset her diet and help her juvenile arthritis.
Jill was the first to respond: “I don’t think I tried to shame you, do you?”
Ally agreed, explaining, “That wasn’t really the point of the detox center, but that is how it came across.”
Adding, “I think everyone’s insecure, no matter what age you are.”
Back in 2017, Jill defended sending Ally to the program while speaking to the New York Daily News.
“This wasn’t about weight,” she said in the 2007 interview. “That was just a by-product. It’s about eating better. If you talk to people who do yoga and have a healthy life, they detox once a year. Allyson wanted to erase the blackboard, to detox her body, and start over.”
In 2012, Ally told Glamour that she didn’t regret going to the detox/weight loss center. “I don’t think we thought through the decision well enough. I’m a different person now than when I was fourteen years old.”
Nowadays, Ally follows the much-hyped F-Factor eating plan, which she gushed about during her most recent Insta Q & A.
“I love the lifestyle,” she said. “And I love the recipes.”
The Real Housewives of New York airs on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET.
