“[RHOC] has changed so much. It’s so different now [and] we’ve had so many cast members that didn’t work out,” Tamra admitted on the April 1 episode of the Kickin’ Back with Kelly podcast.
Tamra says she worries about the future of the franchise because it’s so hard for the audience to connect with new Housewives. She adds that it’s equally as hard for the cast to get to know the newbies in such a short amount of time.
“It’s hard for the viewers too. They’re not really invested,” Tamra said of the new additions to the show. “That’s my concern for the show right now. There’s a lot of new people on the show. A lot.”
As we’ve previously reported, Tamra turned down a part-time role on season 15 of RHOC after her ex-husband Simon Barney was diagnosed with stage three throat cancer.
Tamra says Andy Cohen encouraged her to “take the year off.”
“If you change your mind about it, you can film. If you don’t want to, you don’t have to. And then next year, you can come back full-time,” Andy said according to Tamra.
However, Tamra admits she doesn’t have anything in writing guaranteeing her season 16 return to RHOC. Yet, she makes it clear that her time on reality TV is far from over.
“Vicki [Gunvalson] and I have been approached to do a [reality] show together… on another network. It’s a great concept. I’m also talking to someone about doing a renovation show. To me, that is a dream job,” Tamra explained.
As for making an appearance on season 15 of RHOC, Tamra says “I can’t say I will or I won’t.” In my opinion, the likelihood that Tamra will pop up on season 15 greatly increases the longer filming for the season continues to be postponed.
While Tamra doesn’t miss the drama on RHOC, she does miss spending time with her former co-stars.
“Now that they are filming, I don’t get to see them as often. [Gina Kirschenheiter] and I would play tennis once a week. [Shannon Beador]’s about 30 minutes from me. I haven’t even seen her new house yet,” Tamra confessed. “In a small way, [I] miss them all. As dysfunctional as we were as friends and the way we called each other out and stuff, we were still friends,” Tamra confesses.
“Friends that I’ve kept would definitely be Shannon and Gina and Vicki,” she continued.
Adding, “I don’t really talk to [Emily Simpson]. I’ve never had a close relationship with her and [Kelly Dodd], no, we ended on a bad note. I don’t hate the girl, we’re just different.”
The Real Housewives of Orange County are expected to return to Bravo for season 15 in mid-to-late 2020.
