In a new interview, Leah talks about getting casting for RHONY as well as what fans can expect from the much anticipated new season.
“Being on the show is like being in your primal state,” Leah admitted to the NY Post. “It’s like an animal kingdom — we’re all predators and prey.”
According to Leah when she joined the RHONY cast in September there was a “hazing process.”
Leah says her co-stars, Luann de Lesseps, Dorinda Medley, Tinsley Mortimer, Ramona Singer, and Sonja Morgan, made sure she knew her place as a newbie.
“They were like, ‘Whoa, who is this girl?’ I don’t really think they knew that much about me going in,” Leah explained. “There’s this competitive aspect that we can’t help, just because it’s a show, and there’s a next season and [always the question of] who’s gonna be on it. That’s in the air, you know?”
Leah went on to explain that when she tried out for the show 5 months ago she never saw herself hanging with the Upper East Side queen bees that make up the RHONY cast.
“After [producers] first interviewed me, I was like, ‘They’re never going to pick me,’” Leah laughed. “I literally said, ‘I’m anti-socialite.’ But, I guess they liked that.”
A mere few weeks later Leah was cast on the show following Bethenny Frankel‘s abrupt exit from the show in August 2019.
“I was terrified and so happy at the same time,” she confessed.
Besides Tinsley, who she knew through mutual friends, Leah had never met any of the other ladies on the show.
However, once filming got underway Leah found herself being taken under Ramona’s wing. Leah says “the most interesting dynamic” of season 12 is her relationship with Ramona.
“You have to understand, my mother is only a couple years older than her,” Leah explained. “I was going through some issues with my mom during the show, which everybody will see, and I think that my emotional outburst with Ramona had to do with a lot of my own issues with my mom.”
“Ramona took me under her wing. She took a liking to me right away, but she also, I felt, was hard on me and holds me to a different expectation,” she added. “Maybe she sees [in me] herself when she was younger?”
On the other hand, Leah says co-star Countess Luann de Lesseps surprised her the most.
“I didn’t see me and her like really getting that close, but she’s f–king amazing,” Leah admitted.
Despite being put through the wringer more than a few times, Leah says she learned to roll with the punches that were thrown her way, especially during the season 12 cast trip.
“I had a very rough all-cast trip and I think after that I was like, ‘You know what? Everyone just saw me be insecure and upset,’” she concluded. “So there’s nothing really left to fear after that.”
Season 12 of the RHONY premieres Thursday, April 2, at 9 p.m. ET
I don’t know about you but I can’t wait to see how Leah fits in with the RHONY cast. In the infamous words of Miss Trunchbull from Matilda: “Ah, fresh meat.”
