Dolores Catania Opens Up About Ex-Husband Frank’s Hospitalization; Reveals Why Son Frankie and Gia Giudice Aren’t Dating

Frank Catania has a long road to recovery ahead of him.

The beloved ex-husband of Real Housewives of New Jersey star Dolores Catania recently fell and ended up in the hospital as a result.

“This will be the first time Frank is physically defeated,” Dolores explained to Page Six. “He’s going to lose his muscles for the first time in his life. Those huge, big legs. Those 20-inch arms. How is Frank mentally going to handle this? What defined him was his body and working out.”

On Instagram, Dolores revealed that Frank is being treated at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson after a fall that left him with detached kneecaps and tears in his quadriceps.

“I came home late one day, and I didn’t do the dishes, and the next thing you know, Dolores throws me down the stairs,” Frank joked in a video about his accident.

“Tell the truth, Frank,” Dolores chimed in before Frank revealed what really happened, “I fell.”

The accident happened on Monday and on Wednesday Frank underwent “emergency surgery.”

“David [Principe] will stay in the hospital with him overnight until he goes in for surgery,” she said. “I’m probably going to have to take care of him until he can walk again.”

With the Bravo cameras set to start filming season 11 of RHONJ in March, Dolores says Frank’s recovery will most likely be documented.

“It’s a long road,” she said. “It’s going to test his strength, and maybe part of my self-growth is going to help him. We’ll make it positive.”

On a happier note, Dolores also gushed to Page Six about her son Frankie and Gia Giudice.

Dolores explained that Frankie and Gia’s friendship didn’t blossom into romance after attending prom together because the “timing is not right.”

“Frankie is very conscious of the fact that because of the line of work that he is going into — investment banking — that’s 16 hours a day … he can’t give a girl what she needs right now,” Dolores continued.

However, Dolores points out that Frankie thinks Gia is “the most beautiful girl” and that he feels “so lucky that she would even look at him.”

“They grew up together,” Dolores added. “[There’s an] episode where they were carving pumpkins on Jaqueline [Laurita’s] steps together. They’ve always kind of watched out for each other.”

“I think the fashion show was a very pivotal moment for them,” she revealed, adding that Gia’s response to Frankie on the runway was 100% “all real.”

Dolores also insists that Frankie is very single and instead of chasing girls he’s busy chasing his new dog.

“Frankie is single,” Dolores shared. “Frankie is so single that he just adopted an old dog from a shelter because he was so lonely.”

“It’s not fair for me to have a girlfriend because I don’t have time for her, so I want an older dog just to spend time with me in my apartment.”

Yet, it seems that both Teresa and Dolores haven’t given up home that Gia and Frankie could end up together eventually. And I think every RHONJ fans feels the same.

The Real Housewives of New Jersey airs on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EST on Bravo.
