More often than not Andy Cohen refers to the Real Housewives as the modern-day soap opera.
In 2014, Andy compared Bravo’s wildly successful Real Housewives franchise to the beloved soap operas of the past.
“I think the ‘Housewives’ have replaced the modern-day soap opera in a weird way for a lot of people. Soap operas — scripted soap operas — there’s only a couple on the air right now, and truth is stranger than fiction,” Andy told CBS This Morning.
However, soap opera legend and former All My Children star Susan Lucci doesn’t agree with the comparison at all.
“I don’t think they are the modern-day soaps,” Lucci told Page Six earlier this week. “There’s no storytelling. There’s a lot of editing. It’s, like, they cut to the chase all the time, and I think it’s different.”
While she thinks reality TV stars are “great at entertaining,” she reiterated, “I don’t think they’re the same.”
