Meghan King (formerly known as Meghan King-Edmonds) is getting heat for referring to stepchildren as baggage. This coming from the woman who once said she wished her stepchildren were her own. So what happened?
During a recent episode of Nick Viall‘s The Viall Files, the former Real Housewives of Orange County star commented on dating men with children now that she is single. Despite formerly declaring her love of being a step-mom to Jim Edmond’s children, Meghan has since changed her tune stating: “At the risk of sounding extremely hypocritical, I’m not really into dating a guy with kids.” Yikes!
As you recall, Jim has four other children from his previous marriages: two adult daughters, Hayley and Lauren, plus 14-year-old son Landon and daughter Sutton, 11. Meghan had previously cried on camera stating that she wished her step-children were her own, drawing criticism from the other ladies who pointed out that they already had a mother.
The full conversation about the topic came up as Meghan was discussing how to navigate the dating scene and stated the following:
“I love kids and I loved being a stepmom, but it’s just a lot of baggage. And I hate to call kids baggage, but kids are a lifelong commitment and you didn’t have any input into creating this child and it’s just hard. I’ve been a stepmom — it’s difficult.”
“If I were to go into [a] relationship and be a stepmom, it’s hard. I know it’s hard. But on the flip side, a man with children understands what I’m going through, ’cause he has children.”
Definitely not Meghan’s best look considering she once loved to be the face of the #CoolStepmom. Meghan previously appeared on Stepmom magazine (apparently that’s a thing) and even tried to sell #CoolStepMom hats (cringe):
So what does Jim think? Needless to say, he’s not impressed. A rep for Edmonds told People Magazine, “I wonder how Jim’s children feel about being referred to as baggage. What a disgraceful thing to say.”
