Shane Simpson‘s antics on season 14 of the Real Housewives of Orange County have been super cringy so much so that it’s almost been hard to watch. Am I right?
However, fans weren’t the only ones who were cringing at Shane’s behavior. It turns out Shane’s wife Emily Simpson felt the same as she watched her marital woes play out on TV.
In a new interview with Us Weekly, Emily dishes on the state of her marriage and how her husband became the villain on RHOC.
“Shane and I are really good [now],” Emily reveals. She then admits that it’s “not easy to watch” her marriage onscreen.
“It’s real, it’s authentic and it sucks. A lot of times I just want to cover my eyes. When we started filming, we were just not in the best place in our marriage,” she explains.
Emily then added that because of Shane’s behavior he has become the “villain” on RHOC.
“Everybody likes a good villain. He was trending on Twitter!” she quipped.
“I feel like when they get together, I feel like they’re mean. I think they’re bullies,” Emily said. “Mean girls. Absolutely.”
While the Tres Amigas haven’t attacked Emily directly, her negative opinion of them was formed after watching them go after co-star Kelly Dodd all season.
“I just saw [the bullying] throughout the season, towards the end when they all kind of turned on Kelly,” she said. “I feel like it wasn’t directed at me, but there was a lot of things that were directed at her. A lot of things that didn’t have anything to do with the show. A lot of bringing up things to try to make her look bad. I didn’t like that. I thought it was dirty, and I thought it was unethical. I thought it was just wrong.”
In fact, Emily says her friendship with Tamra has suffered because of her close relationship with Kelly.
“There’s such a division in the cast because it was really like Kelly versus Tamra,” she said. “Kelly and I are very close, so I feel like I’m just on the outs because I didn’t turn against Kelly. So that puts me in a position where it’s basically me against everyone else.”
The Real Housewives of Orange County air Tuesdays at 9 pm EST on Bravo.
