Yikes! Dorinda Medley and Sonja Morgan were caught on camera making offensive comments about several models during New York Fashion Week.
However, Tinsley’s catwalk cameo was overshadowed by some not-so-nice comments made by Dorinda and Sonja throughout the show.
Dorinda and Sonja, who are usually huge proponents on the LGBTQ community, made some off-handed comments about drag queen Miz Cracker and transgender model Yasmine Petty as they walked the runway. And the worst part is those comments were caught on tape!
“Who is that?” Sonja can be overheard asking Dorinda in a clip that she posted to her Instagram Stories of drag queen Miz Cracker walking the runway. “Oh, that’s a guy, right?”
In another now-deleted clip, Dorinda and Sonja make equally offensive comments about transgender model Petty.
“Well, with a body like that, it’s a guy,” Medley remarked. “That’s a guy.”
“Yeah, with a body like that it’s a guy, you’re absolutely right,” Morgan added.
As for Petty, she was disappointed by the comments made by Dorinda and Sonja. The model admitted that she was proud to a part of such a diverse show and was equally excited that the RHONY were in attendance and filming for season 12.
“I was really excited to do the fashion show for Garo Sparo for New York Fashion Week because he was using models of diversity,” Petty told Page Six Style.
“And I knew they were filming the ‘Housewives of New York’ and I knew they were front row and literally, as I was walking down the runway, I heard them making these statements.”
“It’s pretty disheartening and disappointing, especially this day in age and being in New York City,” Petty added about the ladies laughing as she walked the runway.
“My philosophy is that people can’t choose their sexual orientation. They can’t choose their gender identity. They can’t choose or not choose to have a disability or a mental illness or even their race, but things people can choose to do is not to be rude and cruel to people over things they have no control over.”
Sonja and Dorinda are now apologizing for their behavior telling Page Six Style, “We have a history as long-standing supporters of the LGBTQ community in many ways and apologize for our offensive comments at the fashion show.”
I think Sonja and Dorinda meant no harm by their comments and simply didn’t think about how their offhanded remarks could hurt others. Both ladies are such huge supporters and advocates of the LGBTQ community. And as we learned from Lisa Vanderpump, who made a transphobic comment on RHOBH this season, even the biggest LGBTQ supporters can make mistakes and be further educated.
