Andy Cohen The Real Housewives of Orange County - RHOC Vicki Gunvalson

Andy Cohen Opens Up About Vicki Gunvalson’s Demotion Plus, Talks Casting for Season 10 of RHOBH and Filing the Vacancy Left By Lisa Vanderpump!

Vicki Gunvalson will always be the OG of the OC – at least to Andy Cohen!

Even though the OG of the OC was demoted to a friend of the Housewives for season 14 of the Real Housewives of Orange County, Andy Cohen says she’s still an important part of the show and its success.

In a new interview with Us Weekly, Andy explains the decision behind demoting Vicki to a friend for season 14.

“The truth is we’re always looking to freshen up every show,” Andy explained “She’s been on the show for 14 years. That is an unprecedented run on a scripted show, on a reality show, anything.”

Andy added that if he had his “way” Vicki would remain on RHOC for another 14 years.

“She’s very much a part of this season,” he explained. “And so it’s just, it’s just about keeping everything fresh.”

Meanwhile, Andy also opened up about casting to fill the vacancy left by Lisa Vanderpump on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

In an interview, the day before the season 9 reunion was set to film, LVP officially announced her departure from RHOBH; telling the media she would not return for season 10 of RHOBH. This announcement came after a particularly difficult season for LVP, who stopped filming half-way through due to her brother Mark Vanderpump’s death and issues with her RHOBH co-stars.

“We are always looking for new housewives in every city basically. We always have kind of one eye out, no matter how great the cast is. As I’ve said before, Vanderpump is irreplaceable,” Cohen revealed. “But it’s an ensemble show and we have a group of all-stars there and we’ll look to add to the group.”

While actress Denise Richards has quickly become a fan favorite after joining the RHOBH cast during season 9, Andy isn’t so sure about how many actresses should be apart of the Beverly Hills franchise. RHOBH already includes actresses Lisa Rinna, Kyle Richards, and Denise Richards respectively.

“It’s a conversation. Yeah, it’s a conversation. I think it’s something to think about,” he explained. “I think you just have to look at each person as they come.”

The Real Housewives of Orange County returns to Bravo for season 14 on August 6th, while The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 9 reunion concludes on Tuesday, July 30 at 9 p.m. EST on Bravo.
