In a new interview with the Chicago Tribune, Rinna opens up about her reality TV fame, her Real Housewives persona, and so much more.
Rinna also reveals that her RHOBH contract is up and that her fate on the show remains unknown. But more on that later.
For many, the Real Housewives are the modern-day version of soap operas that have us glued to our TV’s multiple nights a week all year long.
So, it’s not surprising to hear Rinna say, “I’ve never been more famous than I am at this point, because of the show.”
The Real Housewives franchises each have millions of fans that include the average joes of America to the Hollywood elite and everyone in between.
And because of the unique personalities of the Real Housewives, it’s not hard to see why viewers are hooked – almost obsessed with the shows and the Housewives themselves.
Speaking of the unique Real Housewives personalities, Rinna admits her RHOBH persona is much like a character. This may sound odd to some since it’s reality TV, but it’s not if you think about it.
“I see her as a character because it’s not all of who I am,” Rinna says. “I’m watching Lisa on the ‘Real Housewives’ — or Rinna, as I like to call her. She’s funny. I get a kick out of her actually. When I watch her, I’m like, ‘God, she’s the comic relief.’”
Rinna joined RHOBH in 2014, and since then she has ruffled more than a few feathers and caused her fair share of drama. However, it’s Rinna’s self-deprecating humor that is most appealing to fans. Rinna often pokes fun at her over-inflated lips, and iconic haircut, among other things. She calls it like she sees it and “owns it” when it comes to every part of herself – good, bad, or ugly.
“What you see is what you get with her,” says longtime friend Denise Richards, who joined the cast during season 9. “She’s self-deprecating, she calls it like it is, and she’s not afraid to say when she makes a mistake. And that’s what I love about her, and that’s why she’s been on the show for so long.”
Growing up in Medford, Oregan, Rinna always knew she wanted more and that she wanted to be famous.
“I just wanted to be a star,” Rinna says. “Harry’s much more like, ‘I’m an actor. It’s about the craft.’ … I didn’t care whether I was a great actor. I just wanted to be famous and was going to do whatever I had to to get there.”
“She was quite an experience to raise,” her mother, Lois Rinna, jokingly describes her daughter. “But she was always a good kid, a fun kid. She always knew what she wanted.”
“I knew as an actor; I would never be able to continue to make money and have a big career. I just knew it in my gut. I couldn’t really get an acting job anymore because I had now become a reality star,” Rinna said. “And I was like, … now, what do I do? By the time ‘Housewives’ came along, I wasn’t afraid of it. I knew it was a direction I had to continue to go on.”
“I was looking at it from a business angle,” she says. “I saw what it did for Nene Leakes, [Lisa] Vanderpump, Kyle [Richards], Bethenny [Frankel].”
“She’s fun to watch,” Cohen says. “She’s funny, and she makes fun of herself. She understands her place in the world, and she’s very secure with herself. I just think she’s entertaining.”
Rinna says RHOBH has brought her more fame and job opportunities than she could ever imagine. It’s also helped launch the modeling careers of both her daughters.
“It’s been great,” Rinna says, “I’ve been able to get deals through my social media platforms and get extra income in that area. I don’t even know where to begin. All kinds of things are constantly coming.”
As for her future on the show, Rinna reveals that her contract is up after season 9. While Rinna would love to come back, she has to wait and see what happens for season 10 and beyond.
“My contract is up; I can tell you that,” Rinna says. “So whether we re-up it I guess is up to the Bravo gods. I would like to go back.”
Thoughts on Rinna’s interview? Are you surprised that Rinna’s contract is up? Do you think Bravo will bring Rinna back for season 10 and beyond?
