Dotson’s transphobic and homophobic Facebook statuses were first unearthed back in December 2018.
Brittany initially addressed fans concerns over Dotson’s posts during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in January 2019.
The Kentucky native said she talked to Dotson and he assured her that he did not hold these beliefs.
“Well I’m not going to say too much but I will say that I am a huge supporter and always will be of the LGBTQ community and no matter what I would never try to make anyone feel uncomfortable. I talked to him myself and he promised me that he was not that way and he was not saying anything about the community whatsoever and I have known this man for years and if it was anything that I felt otherwise, I would never choose somebody like that,” Brittany said.
Months later more of Dotson’s social media posts were revealed and they tell a much different story.
After Buzz Feed did an article on Dotson, VPR fans quickly threatened to boycott season 8 over Dotson’s appearance. Many fans also questioned how a show that so strongly supports the LGBTQ community could feature a man who does the exact opposite.
The reality TV couple remained silent about Dotson being their officiant despite the continued uproar that emerged this week.
On Wednesday, Brittany finally broke her silence in a comment on her Instagram. Brittany replied to one fan who criticized her and Jax: “You guys have absolutely no idea if I have replaced him or not yet still continue to write these things. I am and always will be a true ally.”
The couple later sent out several tweets and revealed that they decided to fire Dotson as their officiant.
This came after Lisa Vanderpump spoke out about the situation. The Pump Rules boss and executive producer made it clear that Brittany and Jax using Dotson as their officiant was unacceptable and demanded they remove him from their ceremony plans.
“Of course everyone knows my feelings for the love and unwavering support for the LGBTQ community,” Vanderpump said in a statement to Buzz Feed via her representative. “I’ve contacted Jax and Brittany who are extremely disappointed as to the depth and seriousness of these comments by the minister and are very shocked and feel that obviously major alterations will have to be made in their ceremonial plans. They are dealing with this today. This attitude is totally not acceptable to them and changes are forthcoming.”
Vanderpump Rules is currently filming its eighth season.
