Bethenny Frankel, star of The Real Housewives of New York, has been dealing with a lot in life right now. Her fiancé, Dennis Shields, died at age 51 almost seven months ago. She’s going through a custody battle with her ex-husband, Jason Hoppy. Plus she’s been filming the RHONY, working on her Skinnygirl empire, and raising her daughter, Bryn. The tragic death of her fiancé has been discussed on the show, and now Bethenny is opening up more about it. Bethenny said she still has “sad days” over the tragedy, but she talks about him “a lot now that the dust has settled.”
According to Us Weekly, Bethenny said, “I loved Dennis, and we talk about him a lot now, more [now] that the dust has settled. And grief is, like, it’s a crisis in and of itself, and we’re trying to survive and trying to feel, and you just wanna make yourself feel better in any way that you can. And now that months have gone by, I’ll have sad days.”
Bethenny still has happy memories, though. Her puppies bring her joy and she said that she got them because of her late fiancé. She explained, “My dogs Biggie and Smallz, he made me get both, he named them and he was obsessed with them. So, he would be laughing. We were talking this morning about the fact that he’d be laughing that they’re now [social media] stars.”
Bethenny opened up about how her daughter handles everything, as well. Bethenny said, “My daughter’s an old soul, and she’s very adult and I’m honest with her.” Bethenny said it’s important to “surround” children with “love and support” during tragedies. Dennis had proposed to Bethenny just four months before he passed away.
Bethenny explained on the RHONY, “Dennis and I went out to dinner in April and he proposed. It’s funny because he said to me, ‘Well, did you say yes?’ And I said, ‘Well, I love you, and I can’t believe you did this, but we have to talk about some conditions and some terms and how things are going to change, issues I’ve had with partnership and consistency. It was all very complicated, and it wasn’t what a natural engagement should be. So our engagement was on ice.” Bethenny also explained that Dennis had also bought a ring for her daughter.
Grieving is a lot to deal with. My heart goes out to Bethenny with this sad situation. I’m glad that she’s focusing on raising her daughter and working on her business. I’m loving that the RHONY is back on and I look forward to the reunion episodes down the road!
