On the Real Housewives of New Jersey, Joe Gorga is more often than not seen making misogynistic and belittling comments to his wife Melissa Gorga about her boutique Envy and his daughter Antonia for her desire to follow in her mother’s footsteps.
But now Joe is speaking out to Page Six and says his comments are a result of bad editing.
“I’m a jokester and a lot of it I don’t mean, and I say those things in a sarcastic way,” Joe, 39, explained. “Half of the time I’m playing, but I’m also — in a way I kind of do mean it. I’m not saying I mean it, but retail is very difficult. It’s up and down. You’ve got to be prepared for that. If I created real estate for you and multimillion dollars in buildings, I’d rather her honestly run them. I’m just being honest. But she can do whatever she wants. Whatever makes her happy.”
“That part got cut. Obviously, it’s a TV show, but it is what it is. I’m really not that kind of guy. A lot of stuff that I do say is just bustin’ chops. I’m really not that way … and it’s the same thing when they film me about my father and [say] I don’t see him. It’s all bull, you know, and it is what it is. I see my father. I see my father all the time. I spend a lot of time with my father. But that’s what I guess that’s what being on a spotlight is, right?”
Joe and Melissa share three children together: Antonia, 13, Gino, 11, and Joey, 8.
As many of you know, Melissa first joined RHONJ in 2011 during season 3. At the time Melissa as was the typical Italian stay at home mom, however, that changed years later when she decided to open her boutique, Envy. This decision didn’t sit well with Joe, who very publicly voiced his dismay over Melissa’s choice to go into business for herself. Since starting Envy Melissa and Joe’s marriage has shifted in a significant way.
Melissa and Joe are currently filming season 10 of the Real Housewives of New Jersey.
