Taylor Armstrong went through physical and emotional hell during her marriage to Russell Armstrong.
While Taylor and Russell’s relationship was rocky to put it kindly, the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star always tried to shield her daughter Kennedy from it.
Now, Kennedy is 12-years-old and well aware of the alleged abuse between her mother and father.
During an interview on celebrity divorce attorney Laura Wasser’s podcast, “Divorce Sucks,” Taylor recalls talking to Kennedy about her Russell’s passing.
“My psychiatrist had said to continue to bring up her father to her so that she doesn’t think that people just disappear,” Taylor, 47, said. “I was saying, ‘Do you miss daddy?’ And she said, ‘No. N-O.’”
Taylor says she tries to remind Kennedy of the good times with her father but insists her daughter says she did not miss Russell.
“She waited for a minute and then she said, ‘Why would you miss a boy who screamed at you all the time?’” Taylor said. “Thank goodness, she was sitting behind me because I had tears running down my face, just feeling like I thought I had done a better job of protecting her.”
The demise of Taylor and Russell’s marriage played out on season 2 of RHOBH. Taylor ultimately filed for divorce from Russell, citing physical and emotional abuse, one month before Russell was found dead on an apparent suicide.
“I say, ‘People don’t ask you out on a first date and punch you in the face,’” Taylor told Wasser. “I had no access to our bank accounts, he controlled all of the money. … A lot of [financial] control and definitely a lot of verbal criticism and that wears a person down.”
Taylor left the RHOBH following season 3 and married her husband John Butler in April 2014.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills airs on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on Bravo.
