Lisa Rinna isn’t holding back when it comes to Lisa Vanderpump in a new interview.
During an appearance on SiriusXM’s The Jenny McCarthy Show on Thursday, Rinna revealed her true feelings about Lisa Vanderpump.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star dished on the season 9 drama surrounding Vanderpump and the cast.
Rinna takes particular issues with Vanderpump’s refusal to film for most of season 9. If you recall Vanderpump stopped filming half-way through season 9. Some believe Vanderpump needed the time off to grieve the death of her brother, Mark Vanderpump, but many others claim that Vanderpump simply refused to complete her contractual obligation. Allegedly, Vanderpump stopped filming after getting caught in a lie or two. It’s also believed that Vanderpump leaked a story to the press about her co-star Dorit Kemsley and her adopted shelter puppy Lucy. But we’ve heard that there’s another twist that happens this season that causes major friction between LVP and her c0-stars.
Either way, Rinna believes that Vanderpump’s behavior is “a really bad example of women in the workplace.”
During her interview with McCarthy, Rinna makes it clear that she and her co-stars have sympathy for Vanderpump but feel that she could have handled season 9 better following the death of her brother. In fact, Rinna thinks Vanderpump should have taken more time off at the beginning of season 9.
Rinna points out that LVP didn’t reach out to any of her co-stars and open up about her struggles following her brother’s death. Rinna insists the cast would have supported Vanderpump taking time off from RHOBH.
“Okay, this is what I want to say first and foremost. I understand that everybody’s grieving process is different and our hearts have gone out and we feel so deeply for Lisa Vanderpump and what she’s been through,” Rinna explained. “In saying that, what I’m the most disappointed in is the fact that she did not reach out to any of us — I’ve known Lisa a long time — and the fact that she didn’t reach out to me and say, hey, you know what, I am in pain and I’m suffering and I need to take a medical leave of absence.”
Rinna claims that the ladies of RHOBH told LVP “go do what you need to do” but says that never happened.
“To not show up for work and not contact any of us for two and a half months, I’m so disappointed in that behavior,” she added.
“I gotta imagine, she’s got, 400 employees. I would imagine if one of her employees did that, they’d be fired,” Rinna continued. “The fact that Bravo took no, there were no consequences, she was able to just do that … I guess the problem I have with it is, I’m raising two teenage girls, Harry and I raised them to be professional, you’re on time, and I don’t care what you’re going through, you show up to work. And if you can’t, you say to somebody, I’m in trouble, help me. That’s what I’m the most sad about and disappointed because I think it’s a really bad example of women in the workplace.”
Vanderpump recently admitted to Us Weekly that “this season was particularly difficult for me and perhaps I was not prepared. There was a lot going on in my personal life that I had to focus on.”
McCarthy then asked Rinna if she believes Vanderpump “gets treated differently” by Bravo.
“I do. She has another show on Bravo, it’s not a fair playing field,” Rinna said, referring to LVP’s spinoff show Vanderpump Rules.
“That is my opinion. You guys can all f–king hate me if you want, I don’t really f–king care,” she admits, referring to the hate she gets from LVP fans. “It’s my opinion. I’m extremely disappointed in all of them. We are working our f–king asses off, she did half of a season and guess what, we did another half of a season Jenny that is unbelievable.”
Rinna says that Vanderpump was “out of sight, out of mind” for the second half of season 9 and insists that the cast made a “kickass show without her.”
In fact, Rinna calls out Vanderpump for being able to film VPR but not RHOBH.
“She shot a whole season of ‘Vanderpump Rules’ before she came to do our show — why can you do that but all of a sudden you can’t do our show?”
The conversation then turned to the dog drama surrounding Dorit Kemsley and her husband PK Kemsley. Jenny theorizes that Vanderpump had Vanderpump Dogs employee John Sessa do her dirty work for her. If you recall during episode one, John Sessa brought up the dog drama when Teddi Mellencamp and Kyle Richards visited Vanderpump at Vanderpump Dogs.
Rinna agrees, “How many people do you know that go, ‘Don’t talk about it, don’t talk about it, don’t talk about it’? To me, that means, ‘Talk about it, talk about it,’ does it not? Call me crazy, I’m not a psychologist.” Rinna also questions why Vanderpump didn’t fire John if she was so pissed at him for bringing up the dog drama.
To wrap Rinna touched upon the recent RHOBH drama that’s happening off-screen. Rinna recently revealed that she and her co-stars are receiving nasty and even violent tweets from fans of the show that don’t agree with them.
“Here’s the thing that I’m not happy about, some of the cast members are getting death threats and they’re getting death threats against their children,” said Rinna. “Not cool.”
Meanwhile, Rinna continues to defend voicing her opinion and criticizing Vanderpump’s behavior telling fans on Twitter: “This is how I feel. This is my opinion. We tell the truth. That is what this show is about. Speak your opinion. Say how you feel. I’m done I did press I said how I Feel. Which is my prerogative. I will continue to be engaged. Now just watch the show.”
All I can say is: “In the game of life, Rinna takes all!” Boom!
Thoughts on Rinna’s interview? Should Vanderpump have requested time off from RHOBH? Was Vanderpump behavior during season 9 unprofessional? Why do you think Vanderpump was able to film Pump Rules but not RHOBH? Does Vanderpump get special treatment from Bravo?
