The Real Housewives of Orange County alum Jo De La Rosa recently announced on social media that she had called off her engagement to Mark Lovette, the CEO and founder of media company Empire Digital. They got engaged in November of 2015. Jo shared, “‘I’m just not happy anymore and I want to build the life of my dreams,’ I cried to my mom with tears rolling down my face. I had just called off my second engagement and felt like my world was falling apart.” As RHOC fans know, she was previously engaged to Slade Smiley who is now engaged to and expecting a baby with fellow RHOC alum, Gretchen Rossi. Jo has left Orange County and is now in L.A.
Jo said in her post, “Then you should go do that,’ she responded as she gave me a hug. ‘It’s too late to start over. What if I’m not good enough? What if I fail?’ I replied. ‘What if you don’t?’ she responded so I packed up everything I had and moved back to L.A.”
Jo said that “starting over is hard” but she’s moving on in a new house in Los Angeles. She shared a photo of a door mat that says, “Home Sweet Home” and she wrote, “Welcome to my home. Welcome to my heart. It’s a hot mess but I’m learning to accept it’s a beautiful mess. In this home, I’m learning how to be on my own again. In this home, I’m building a business at night while I work days. In this home, I’m learning from my mistakes and as I start this new journey, I pray I find the girl I lost in my relationship and can be a light if you’re on your own journey.”
Jo is literally starting a brand new chapter. “A couch, a mattress, a desk and my clothes are all I have to my name in this new apartment – this is what starting over looks like – and I couldn’t be more ready to re-build and get out of my own way,” she shared.
She explained, “Posting on social media pretending like your life is ‘perfect’ going through it for me was even harder. Sometimes you need to step away, figure out what the hell you’re doing with your life, cry until you can’t cry anymore. Then one day, you wipe the tears from your eyes and you’re able to stand back up trusting that God or whatever you believe in has you as you start your life over again.”
Good luck to Jo on her new chapter!
