Melissa Gorga The Real Housewives of New Jersey - RHONJ

Hindsight is 20/20: Melissa Gorga Reveals She No Longer Agrees With her Marriage Advice from ‘Love: Italian Style!’

Trouble in paradise for Melissa and Joe Gorga? It sure sounds like it, as Mrs. Gorga has revealed that she no longer wants to be the traditional Italian housewife that Joe Gorga has always pined for, and up until now, has been the foundation of their marriage.

Speaking to ET,  Melissa commented on her critically panned marriage advice book Love Italian Style: The Secrets of My Hot and Happy Marriage which instructed women to treat their husband “like a kinso he’ll treat you like a queen.”  It seems that Melissa has finally caught up with the rest of modern society in the thought that her advice was sexist and outdated as she now says:

“Like, I can’t believe it. I’ll probably go back and read the book and go, ‘Yeah, no.’ And that’s a true fact. It’s one of the things that, I’m being very honest, I struggle a lot with Joe over that.”

Advice in the book covered everything from not letting your husband know when you went to the bathroom to not wearing sloppy sweats around him. Melissa ended up doing a publicity tour defending a line in the book that many interpreted as marital rape, further putting the book in hot water. Needless to say, the book wasn’t a best seller.

It appears that Joe isn’t happy about his wife’s more modern role in the household as she further when on to reveal that they are not the picture perfect couple that fans see on screen:

“I feel like a lot of people don’t know that, and look at us like we are the perfect couple, but we do argue a lot. We argue a lot because I am such a working girl now. And he’s truly very traditional and he’s breaking into it slowly, but just me being here in L.A. for four days, you know, he’s losing his mind. So it’s like a very hard struggle.”

“I was so stuck in and being a traditional Italian girl, being stuck in like, ‘No, that’s what I want to do. I want to be a mom who cooks and cleans, and my husband will provide for me and that’s what every lucky girl gets in life, and that’s what I got.”

Joe clearly isn’t happy about his wife working as he has compared it to “making crumbs” and even told his daughter that Melissa basically just sits in the boutique all day. Nothing like having a supportive husband to help you achieve your dreams!

It’s clear that Joe wants a sexy wife who cleans, cooks and doesn’t leave the home as Melissa gave us details of their private struggles saying:

“We’re having these conversations about ‘man vs. woman. Why is it, like, you work all day, too, but I’m also gonna come home and do the laundry and cook and clean — and I know this sounds cliche and ridiculous, but this is a legit thing.”

“Like, I’m going to work, too. I need you to respect my work, even though I’m gonna be in glam for two hours. It’s also part of my work. For him, it’s a struggle to understand. He’s like, ‘Your work is fun,’ and I’m like, ‘I’m working’… Just because his work is in construction, it’s not as fun, I would say, as my work. So we go back and forth on that and just the roles in the house.”

“You know, it’s scary. I would be dead honest with this, and if he were sitting here, he would say the same… We are really battling it out right now.”

Are the two in serious trouble? Only time will tell but Melissa reveals that she now understands why people get divorced which isn’t a good sign:

“I’ve been on the show for eight years. I was [always] like, ‘We’re good, we got this. I don’t know what everybody else’s problem is, all these Housewives are getting divorces’… and then I’m like, ‘Oh, I get this. OK, we’re hitting a moment.’”

Thoughts on Melissa’s interview? Do you think she and Joe have what it takes to make it last?
