Along with everything else housewives related, the infamous taglines have evolved so much that they are now highly anticipated each season. What started out as a simple sentence or phrase that the ‘wives had once said, has now become infamous one liners that are often quoted and are revealed ahead of the actual housewives premiere date. So how does Bravo actually come up with them?
According to Bravo source, Lisa Shannon, EP of RHONY, “it’s a collaborative process between the ladies and the producers.”
Per Shannon, “It is one of my favorite parts. We usually like spitball them all. Barrie Bernstein, who’s another EP on the show, will come to my office, and I’ll get out a bottle of wine. We, like, become them. Like, ‘OK, what is Tinsley [Mortimer] doing this season?'” she explained. “We confer with [the New York Housewives]. [They’re] always coming up with stuff.”
Did I hear a bottle of wine and playing around with taglines? That sounds like my dream job – where can I apply?
According to the source, the ladies all have a favorite tagline with Sonja’s being “I have a taste for luxury, and luxury has a taste for me.” Dorinda likes “I give Uptown a whole new attitude” from Season 7 the best, and Tinsley is a fan of “A good set of lashes can fix anything … even a mugshot.”
The taglines have become a fun and fan favorite tradition, with the pressure on producers to make them better each season. I love the reveal and am usually impressed with their creativity and how they reflect each ‘wives unique personality.
