When Kathryn Dennis went missing on a recent episode of Southern Charm, many immediately assumed the worst.
Kathryn has a history of drug and alcohol abuse, so when she went off the grid and wan’t answering her door, many were obviously concerned. Fortunately, Kathryn ended up being fine, however when she came out of hiding she revealed another demon she has been secretly battling: depression.
Speaking out to the Inquisitr Kathryn is opening up about her struggle with depression and how it affects her daily life:
“There is so much stigma around mental health and specifically depression, and there shouldn’t be. However, at the time, I needed to be alone with my thoughts and I didn’t know exactly how to broach that subject with my friends. I didn’t want them to judge me. I had been judged so much already.”
“I certainly didn’t want anyone to worry and felt that if I told them I was even struggling in the slightest, I would just be a burden on my friends, but that’s the illness talking. I didn’t think anyone would care.”
Kathryn seems to struggle with self-worth and this season seems to be especially tough on her.
As for opening up about her struggle on TV, Kathryn states:
“I hope to show the people watching the show that anyone can struggle with depression or whatever it may be, and not be ashamed.”
