Dorit Kemsley has never been one to hold back and since joining the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills she’s ruffled more feathers than I can count so it’s not surprising that she’s ruffling even more feathers in a new interview with The Lady Gang podcast.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star isn’t holding back one bit and spills the tea on EVERYTHING from joining the world of reality TV, to her infamous and ever-changing accent, to her ruthless co-stars, and so much more!
Dorit says that she never had any “aspirations” to join Real Housewives but confesses that after the audition process she couldn’t say no to joining the Beverly Hills franchise. While Dorit admits there are downfalls to making your life public she is quick to point out that the fans make it all worthwhile.
“I never thought that I would ever do it. I never had aspirations. I didn’t really know or expect anything going into it. They approached me and then, of course, I had to audition. And I wasn’t really sure I wanted to do it. It was my husband encouraging me. He kept saying just audition and if they chose you we can deal with it then,” Dorit explains. “He sold me on that then of course by the time you’ve gone through the process and they have selected you there’s no way in hell I’m actually going to say no.”
Dorit continued, “Once you lose your privacy and become a public figure there’s a lot of things that come with it. My husband and I try to stay in our own world but yet your exposed. It’s still a little bit crazy when you’re walking down the street or I’m somewhere and people scream your name and want to take your picture. I think it’s the sweetest thing ever. I kind of melt every single time particularly when it’s young teenage girls and they come up to me and say what an inspiration and they love to watch the show. It’s everything. It makes almost everything better. Everything else I just kind of take as it comes. “
However, with the good comes the bad and Dorit has had to deal with her fair share of backlash on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Dorit has been labeled a pot-stirrer by fans and haters alike and has been mercilessly mocked for her ever-changing accent.
So what does Dorit think of the accusations laid against her?
Well, frankly she just doesn’t see it.
“It haunts me I don’t like it,” Dorit says of being called a pot-stirrer. “Typically in a big group of women, you know we are six or seven women at any given time, things happen. After going through my first season I was like ‘Oh my goodness it’s best to get things out.’ Let’s just talk through it and move past it so we can go on to the next silly thing to talk about.”
As for her accent, Dorit chalks it up to speaking different languages, living in Europe, and growing up with non-American parents. The RHOBH star says she speaks “four” languages fluently including “Hebrew, Italian, Spanish, and English.”
Dorit calls the claims she’s faking her accent “very annoying.”
“People thought I was putting it on. Why would I want to do that? Don’t you think that would give someone a headache trying to be that person at all times?” Dorit questions.
“I don’t think I sound British at all; my husband doesn’t think I sound British but I’ve always spoken with a cadence and an inflection. I don’t hear it like other people do. I think once you get to know me you kind of realize I just tend to enunciate and over-enunciate and there’s goes my accent.”
Over the years Dorit says her accent has “gotten stronger and more powerful” due to living in “Europe” and hanging around her husband and other friends who are “not American.”
Getting back to being apart of the Real Housewives Dorit reveals some very interesting tidbits about casting and the pressure producers put on the Housewives to perform.
According to Dorit, newbies never meet with the current Housewives cast while auditioning. Dorit says it’s all up to “the powers at be – the puppeteers decide. They decide this personality will fit in well.”
Thankfully, Dorit knew Lisa Vanderpump before joining the show which made her entrance a little bit easier than most but admits she still struggled and received very little empathy from some of her co-stars.
“I knew Lisa Vanderpump before I start we had a great friendship so I knew her going into the show but I hadn’t met any of the other women,” Dorit reveals. “I met them for the first time with the cameras on. It is a group of very strong successful women that have opinions and they also had a history. I was the newcomer, Erika had done it a year ahead of me, so I kinda looked to her almost for the empathy as the newbie but she wasn’t prepared to offer an empathy at that point.”
As pressure from producers Dorit says “It’s not easy. At the end of the day, you have to remember it is a show. It is reality – it’s dialed up reality in a lot of the sense because some of the things we wouldn’t ordinarily have conversations about. But it is a television show and people don’t want to be bored to tears.”
The topic of conversation then moves to which of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is the most ruthless.
Not surprisingly Dorit admits Lisa Rinna would have taken the cake if it were last year.
“I’ve seen an entirely different Lisa Rinna this year. She’s been so lovely so supportive. I would have probably said her because she can be quite scary when she comes out of left field,” Dorit explains.
Instead, Dorit dubs Kyle Richards the most ruthless telling The Lady Gang, “Kyle likes to kind of stir things up from the side. She’s big big stirrer. Very sneaky. She’s the real sniper from the side.”
Speaking of Kyle, Dorit also dishes on her ongoing love triangle with Kyle and LVP which she said surprised her and brought out an insecure and possessive side of Kyle she had never seen before.
“The funny thing in our love triangle I’ve never thought that. And we spend a lot of time off camera together – the three of us. We have a barrel of laughs. I have got a great friendship with Kyle, or so I thought, and she feels the same. I saw some things in her this year that were surprising. This kind of way she thinks about the friendship between Lisa and I and there’s a little bit of jealousy there.”
To wrap, Dorit revealed who she believes is the richest on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
“Lisa Vanderpump? I don’t even know who’s the richest but maybe I would say her,” Dorit wrapped.
Oh, Dorit spill that tea but some of these claims may come back to haunt you during season 9! Just saying!

Thoughts on Dorit’s interview? Do you agree that Kyle is the real sniper from the side? Is Kyle sneaky? Can Dorit and Kyle’s friendship survive after this? Do you think Kyle is jealous of Dorit and LVP’s friendship? Do producers need to put more pressure on the Housewives to make the shows even more interesting?
