Two former Real Housewives are not surprised to learn of the falling out and apparent tensions between Bethenny Frankel and Carole Radziwill. Jules Wainstein and Kelly Killoren Bensimon weighed in on Frankel’s treatment of them and other matters pertaining to Real Housewives of New York on the Everything Iconic podcast.
“How would you respond if you got reamed out by the biggest bitch in the world?” asked Wainstein, reflecting on the scene from her season of Luann De Lesseps lamenting over a Bethenny outburst while Wainstein was preoccupied with her dad’s hospitalization. The other former Housewife to speak with the podcast host Danny Pellegrino was Kelly Killoren Bensimon, who revealed that in addition to publishing novels with Simon and Schuster, she is going for her MBA degree and is also working in high-end real estate.
“I never watch the show,” Bensimon conceded, admitting that when she was on RHONY, she only watched her own scenes and not those of her cast mates.
Remember that famous episode “Scary Island?” Bensimon shared that she was the one to give the trip its famous title. She added: “That season we knew Bethenny was getting a spinoff and the cast mates had a choice, be on Bethenny’s team or march to the beat of your own drum. I didn’t want my fans to think that when women are behaving badly I am a part of that. I am an adult raising kids on my own…You are acting like a child, being rude and making me feel like shit when you don’t know me.”
Bensimon, who once claimed to be a friend of Gwyneth Paltrow’s, explained that although they never really socialized (her ex-husband had photographed the actress), she was coming to the star’s defense because she recognized what Bethenny was doing: “She was getting into Twitter fights with stars to get attention and followers.” Bensimon added: “It was guerilla marketing at its finest.”
In a separate interview with Pellegrino (on the same episode of the podcast), Wainstein said she’s been concentrating on her health drink Modern Alkeme since quitting the show to focus on her still ongoing divorce. Today, she remains close with Dorinda Medley, who has updated her on the drama between the ladies. Wainstein said she is looking forward to seeing Carole Radziwill defend herself, unlike the parroting of Bethenny in seasons past. “I don’t know the end result but I’ve heard the typical – Bethenny says something that insults Carole and Carole really sticks up for herself. I got excited.”
When asked, Wainstein replied that she wouldn’t be opposed to returning to RHONY. She added that she has no regrets about her time on the show, even the harsh criticism she was under by Bethenny and her cast mates while recovering from an eating disorder. “I had no idea that the girls were going to criticize everything that I ate or do,” she said, “I felt like if I moved my water one inch to the right, they would whisper. If I’m going to tell you something and be open and honest about my history – like I was about my eating disorder -then don’t judge me because it’s a gift that I’m telling you.”
Although she found Bethenny to be “scary” at times and sympathized with Luann for her reaction to Bethenny in the Berkshires, Wainstein shared that she did get to know the softer side of Bethenny Frankel.
“She is really smart…She cares. I’ve had some really wonderful moments with her. She’s a single mom who made it all on her own and there’s something to be said for that. She went from nothing to something and I’m a single mom now too and I commend her. I can see why she has tough skin.”
