Kyle Richards is best known for being part of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Before joining the world of reality TV, Kyle’s claim to fame was being a child actress and the aunt of Paris and Nikki Hilton.
However, through the years, Kyle built a name for herself by participating in some of the most notorious drama in reality TV history.
But it turns out there’s a lot more that goes into being one of Bravo’s reality TV darlings and not all of it is as glamorous and fun as it seems.
“When I first signed up to do the ‘Housewives,’ I thought, OK, I’m going to do this little show for two months, and that’s it. Well, two months ended up being — shooting for four or five months, and then it ended up being a year-round job,” Kyle recently told Fox News. “When you’re not shooting, you’re still doing interviews, and then there’s reunion, and then you’re doing press — it takes up a lot of your time.”
Speaking of press, as a Real Housewife Kyle often appears on Bravo’s late night talk show Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
So, what’s her relationship with the Bravo executive like?
“It’s is funny when I … do ‘Watch What Happens Live,’ after all of these years our relationship has absolutely gotten closer,” Kyle explained. “I think he tries to keep arm’s length with all of us because you know, we’re so many, and it’s having a million wives that probably drive you nuts. He has a lot to deal with, but we’re a lot closer these days.”
While Kyle lives a pretty glamorous life on and off screen, there are major downfalls to being a Bravo-lebrity, but when things get tough, she has her co-stars, like BFF Lisa Vanderpump, to turn to.
“There’s obviously a downside to being in the public eye all the time no matter what you do,” Kyle said. “Lisa Vanderpump and I are the closest of the cast. We’re the only two originals left. So, after eight years, we are very close.”
Currently, Kyle and Lisa V are re-living their real-life drama as season 8 of RHOBH plays out on Bravo, and soon fans will witness them rehash all the drama at the reunion, which Kyle says is pure torture.
“Preparing for the reunion is like going into a boxing ring, I always say that. I mean literally, it feels like that,” Kyle laughed.
“We all go to our rooms — they like to keep us separate because they don’t want any conversations to happen off camera because they want everything to happen on camera,” Kyle revealed. “It’s a whole crazy process that lasts all day, and we wake up at like 5:30 in the morning, get picked up really early and then we’re done about 8 p.m. It’s a long day of sitting and talking about torture.”
Kyle also opened up about the Real Housewives fan-base; explaining that while there are plenty of lovers of the show, there are also just as many haters and trolls.
“So, you get the people who just like love you and then the people who are just like mean and say the craziest things, that’s the downside,” Kyle admitted. “It’s not a scripted show. It’s your real life, so when people say mean things, and you’re being judged for an argument that happened, it is pretty hurtful sometimes.”
I can’t imagine how crazy it is at the Real Housewives reunions. Can you imagine rehashing drama that’s sometimes more than a year old? Talk about torturous! But I’m so glad the Housewives do it – that’s why they get paid the big bucks!
Thoughts on Kyle’s interview? Is reality TV worth dealing with the downside of that type of fame? Are you surprised being part of Real Housewives takes up so much time? Do you believe Andy keeps the Housewives at arm’s length? Are you excited about the upcoming RHOBH reunion? Sound off below!
