For anyone that either dreamed of being a reality star or had a crush on a Bravoleb – you may want to read the following.
According to Page Six, STD’s run so rampant among casts that the reality stars and starlets are forced to sign an ‘STD clause’ which ensures that Bravo cannot be sued if they contract an STD while filming.
Insiders state that this is a common practice among dating shows, as the shows are fueled by booze and attractive (and often promiscuous) costars, essentially making it a STD breeding ground. While shows such as The Bachelor and The Bachelorette do test for sexually transmitted diseases on all contestant, it’s stated that Bravo stars are not tested. Since it’s basically up to the individual to sleep at their own risk, it’s no wonder why Bravo needs to have themselves covered!
It should come as no surprise that the show that reportedly has the most issues with this is Vanderpump Rules as the stars change partners as often as they change clothes. Bartender Jax Taylor was even singled out by James Kennedy for being a ‘dirty boy’ and accused him of having STD’s (something which Jax has denied.)
While Bravo didn’t comment on the report, Jersey Shore creator SallyAnn Salsano had spoken out about the issue of STD’s and reality TV. According to Salsano, producers would give out Valtrex on Jersey Shore “like M&Ms.” She said, “Hey kids, it’s time for Valtrex!’ It’s like a herpes nest. They’re all in there mixing it up.”
Ick – while this report is disgusting it does not surprise me. If ever given the chance to hook up with a reality star I would decline for this very reason. Reality stars are almost encouraged to hook up in boozy one night stands for ratings drama and I’m sure we only see a sliver of it. I’m sure there are a few gems out there but overall, I’d say these clauses in the contracts exist for a reason!
