Kyle Richards Let's Discuss: The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills - RHOBH

Kyle Richards Speaks Out After Home Burglary; Says “Everything Has Been Taken”

Kyle Richards’ new, dream home was broken into back in December and “everything” including jewelry, watches, handbags, luggage, and even her passport was stolen.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star is finally opening up about the break-in telling The Daily Dish “We first heard about the burglary when we were in Aspen, and we were completely shocked. And it was just devastating. I’m very grateful that we’re all OK. I keep telling myself; these are just things, they are. But it still really hurts a lot. My mom [Kathleen Richards] left me things she had collected her whole life, passed those onto me, and I wanted to pass those things on to my four daughters. And every time I buy something or I’ve been given something, I think, ‘Well, these are gonna be for my daughters one day.’ Really, every gift I’ve ever been given, everything my mother left me, everything that I worked my butt off to buy for myself, all of it has been taken.”

And because so many of the items held irreplaceable memories for Kyle, she can’t just go on a shopping spree to replace everything.

“We were in Aspen, and everyone said, ‘OK, let’s skip skiing today, and we’re gonna go shopping.’ And I’m like, ‘I don’t really want to do that right now.’ After you’ve had so much taken from you, I find myself not wanting to buy anything else right now,” Kyle shared. “I’m looking at things differently in this moment. I don’t know how I’m gonna feel in six months or a year. I really don’t know. But the thought of going out and spending a lot of money on a handbag or something like that now just is something that’s not appealing to me because now I have this negative connotation with it. So I don’t know. I don’t know what I’m gonna do moving forward.”

In fact, many wondered why Kyle and her family didn’t rush home after the break-in and instead continued vacationing in Aspen.

Kyle admits that being home was the last place she wanted to be after the break-in.

“The last place I wanted to be was home at that moment. So I decided to stay in Aspen with my family and try to focus on the fact that we have each other and we’re happy and healthy and enjoy our vacation together because there was nothing I could do at home in L.A. The detectives had handled everything. And everything was gone,” she said. “So I think that in moving forward, I don’t know if I’ll be sharing on social media like I do now, ‘Oh, I’m going here, I’m going there.’ It changes how you think about everything.”

Going forward Kyle says she’s taking a page out of Kim Kardashian’s book, who was infamously robbed in Paris last year, and won’t be keeping her jewelry at home.

“Like Kim Kardashian, she said her home was gonna be a jewelry-free zone. I am, too. I had a few things I was actually wearing at the time. They’re in the bank. I have no desire to put them on,” Kyle said. “I went and borrowed these [earrings] from XIV Karats in Beverly Hills. I walked in. They’re like, ‘Kyle, do you need anything to borrow?’ I’m like, ‘Please, I’ll take anything.’ So, for now, I’m good with that.”

Kyle has also stepped up security at her home to make her and her family feel extra safe.

“We actually have an incredible security system in our house. It was just not active at the moment because we’re under construction. We have a state-of-the-art alarm system, an amazing camera system going on,” she said. “I have five dogs, who were not home at the time. And now we actually have two armed guards on the property, even though there’s nothing to steal, but it’s just for peace of mind.”

Despite it all, Kyle and her family are counting their blessings and know how lucky they are.

“It was a terrible, terrible, terrible feeling,” Kyle said of the experience. “And it’s been a rough time for my family, but we’re OK, we’re happy, and we’re healthy, but it’s been very sad, really sad.”

Just this past weekend, Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale’s San Fernando Valley home was broken into, and police believe it was the same burglary ring that hit Kyle’s home mere weeks ago.

I can’t imagine what Kyle and her family are feeling now, but I think Kyle is taking the right approach to it all.

Thoughts on Kyle’s interview? Are you shocked everything was taken? Do you think Kyle is taking the proper precautions going forward? Was Kyle right to not run out and replace everything that was stolen?
