Joe Giudice is quickly learning that life in prison is a far cry from his previous reality TV life.
The Real Housewives of New Jersey husband claims that a dispute over his immigration status is preventing him from entering an alcohol-abuse program at the Federal Correctional Institution in Fort Dix.
If Joe did complete the program, he could shave up to a year off his prison sentence. In fact, when a federal judge sentenced Joe it was recommended that he participate in the jail’s alcohol-abuse program.
As of now, Joe is set to be in prison until March 2019.
However, Joe’s predicament is a very complicated matter.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has placed a detainer on Joe shortly after he arrived at Fort Dix in 2016.
Joe claims that the prison is improperly citing this ICE detainer as a way to keep him out of the alcohol-abuse program, the Courier Post reports.
Guidice was born in Italy and moved to America when he was one but never became a U.S. citizen. It’s said that Joe’s mom, Filomena Giudice, blames herself for never having Joe become an American citizen.
It’s rumored that it’s highly likely that Joe will be deported back to Italy once he finishes servicing his prison sentence.
I think that if a judge recommended Joe complete this program, he should be allowed to join it. While I’m sure, Joe would love shaving a year off his prison sentence perhaps he actually needs the counseling and treatment that could come from this program.
Are you surprised Joe is banned from entering an alcohol-abuse program? Should Joe immigration status affect him getting treatment in prison? Why do you think Joe never became a U.S. citizen? Do you think Joe will be deported after prison? Will Teresa and her daughters go with Joe to Italy if he is deported?
