Pizza, pizza, read all about it!
Joe Gorga is opening his first restaurant, Gorga’s Homemade Pizza and Pasta with the help of his wife Melissa and his sister Teresa Giudice.
The restaurant is a tribute to Joe and Teresa’s mom Antonia who passed away in March as well as the families Italian heritage.
“My mother loved to cook; it was like her drug,” Joe told PEOPLE. “I always told her I was gonna open up a restaurant for her. Then I got busy. While I signed a contract on this place we lost her. So this is for her.”
“We wanted to share her recipes with the world,” Teresa added. “I always would say, ‘Mom, everyone has to try your food!’ because that’s how I learned to cook.”
Gorga’s Homemade Pizza and Pasta’s menu is made up of standard Italian staples many of which are featured in Teresa’s first book Fabulicious and are named after themselves and their children.
Besides the food, the best part of the restaurant is the family photos that cover the walls and show the strong family bond of the family.
The photos displayed show everything from recent photos, to photos from Teresa and Joe’s dad in Italy, to photos of Joe and Teresa growing up in New Jersey.
While the family has had their fair share of drama in the past they say they are closer than ever thanks to this new venture.
“I think any time you’re working with family, you spend so much more time together—sometimes that can be good or bad, but thank God we’re doing good,” Melissa says. Adds Joe: “My sister and I were at each other’s throats for a while, but we’re back together, and now we’re gonna stay together.”
I love seeing Joe, Tre, and Melissa getting along. Jenna and I were able to attend the private opening party and it was incredible. We will be spilling everything we saw and heard at the event soon – so stay tuned.
