Real Housewives of New Jersey may be in-between seasons but the drama and scandals are bigger and better than ever!
Joe Gorga is rumored to be involved in a low-income housing scandal relating to a property he owns at 57 Westervelt Avenue in Hawthorne, New Jersey.
In a 2014 property listing, 57 Westervelt Ave is described as “Brand New Luxury Apartment Complex @ Millview Lofts! Features Ground Level Unit With 3 Bedrooms! L/Rm/Combo Kit, Cac, Granite Tops, 3300 Sqft Roof Top Lounge Area, W/Breath Taking Nyc Skyline Views! Storage Units In Lower Level Available, On Site Parking, Elevator, Laundry On-Site, High Ceilings, Bbq Area, Horse Shoe Pit, Golf Putting Green!! A Must See!! This Complex Offers Lots Of Historical Character… Full Gym Onsite.”
While there are no issues with Joe owning the property, he’s coming under scrutiny for not living up to his promises.
“When Joe acquired the building -which used to be a factory- he had promised the Hawthorne Planning Board that six of the units in the building would be low-income housing,” insiders explained to The Dirty.
Adding, “As of yet, he has yet to make any of the units in the building, low income, which is an issue as his approval from the Hawthorne Planning Board in buying the building was partially based on his agreement to provide low-income housing.”
According to the minutes from a July 2014 board meeting, Joe did ask for “permission to provide all of the required affordable units off-site” which he was granted approval for. However, it seems that Joe still has not closed on any properties to house the units at.
Sources added, “Joe’s tenants at his luxury property are definitely risking eviction if this isn’t settled soon, as he can lose his CO (Certificate of Occupancy) for the building due to him not making good on his promise.”
It seems that this is an on-going story and the details that are to come aren’t pretty. Yikes! First ENVY, now this – talk about getting kicked while you’re down.
