Gigi Hadid may appear to have the perfect life: looks, money, VS Angel wings and a legions of fans. Despite having all of this, Gigi reveals that she is like many other young women battling an invisible illness.
The famous daughter of former RHOBH Yolanda Hadid reveals that she was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease aka inflammation of the thyroid.
In a panel through her partnership with Reebok, Gigi revealed that: “she has been battling the thyroid disease for the past two years and struggles to maintain a normal metabolism.”
Gigi spoke to the crowd stating: “My metabolism actually changed like crazy this year. I have Hashimoto’s disease. It’s a thyroid disease, and it’s now been two years since taking the medication for it, so for the [Victoria’s Secret] show I didn’t want to lose any more weight, I just want to have muscles in the right place, and if my butt can get a little perkier, then that’s good.”
Gigi did get some comments at this year’s Victoria’s Secret show due to her thin frame:
This just proves that you can never be the ideal weight in Hollywood. Just recently it was revealed that Tommy Hilfiger’s team put her in a huge coat as she wasn’t as thin as the other models:
I think she looks gorgeous at any weight and personally am over society commenting on whether a woman is too thin/too heavy. Invisible illnesses are notorious for messing with weight and I feel for her doing her best while in the public eye.
Hashimoto’s disease is classified as when “someone’s immune system attacks the thyroid gland.” It is actually a very common problem to have and many girls suffer from it and as a result have their weight fluctuate up and down.
Siblings Bella and Anwar along wither her mother Yolanda suffer from Lyme disease. Her is wishing all the Hadid family health and happiness in 2017!
