Teresa Giudice shut it down when she walked off an interview with Access Hollywood Live following a question about her husband, Joe Giudice’s, possible deportation back to Italy after he completes his 41-month prison sentence. Now Teresa explains why she walked off AHL and says that despite her living her life on camera, Joe’s possible deportation is “nobody’s business.”
In a statement to PEOPLE, the Guidice family attorney James J. Leonard explains Teresa’s walk-off calling the host’s questions “tasteless.”
“Teresa was there to promote the new season of Real Housewives of New Jersey and the paperback release of her book, not to be asked a question like the one that was posed about this being the end of her family. She politely deflected the question and asked them to move on, and they didn’t, so she left. She was doing Access Hollywood, not 60 Minutes or a sit down with Barbara Walters. To see the host hi-fiving at the end of the segment as if she did something worthy of a celebration was absolutely tasteless,” Leonard says.
Leonard goes on to say,“Clearly the question posed and the answer they hoped to illicit were not something Teresa was comfortable discussing. She has her own personal reasons for that and owes absolutely no one an explanation for her choosing to not answer the question.”
Melissa Gorga, who was also present during the interview,“absolutely supported Teresa walking off and walked off right behind her in a display of solidarity,” James confirms.
Following the incident, Teresa, who continued her press day in New York City, explained her walk-off further on NBC’s New York Live, saying that Joe’s possible deportation, is a “legal matter.”
“I’m not going to address it. It’s nobody’s business,” Teresa said. “It’s a legal matter, and I’m not addressing it. So, if anybody asks me, going forward from here, I’m going to walk off … so don’t even try it. Because they’ll just make it worse.”
Teresa went on to reveal that she was very naive going into reality TV, and doesn’t know what her life would have been like if she had never joined the Real Housewives of New Jersey.
“Everything that happened to me, being in the public eye, unfortunately, made it worse for me. And I feel like if I wasn’t in the public eye, who knows what would have happened. Unfortunately, when I first got into this, I didn’t know all of this was going to happen, and I got into it for fun, not to be scrutinized, and to be jabbed at, to be under a microscope. Like, I didn’t know anybody in Hollywood or California, I mean I grew up in Jersey! So I didn’t know about any of this. So I really got into it blindly, and I was very naive.”
I think Teresa was justified in walking off of the AHL interview. Teresa politely said, “next question” and the interviews just hit her with ANOTHER rude question. I get it; Teresa’s a felon, but she served her time in prison and is paying off her debts – she’s apologized and paid her debt to society she shouldn’t have to keep defending herself or apologizing.
Do you think Teresa was justified in walking off of AHL? Thoughts on Teresa and James’ statements? Has Teresa been naive in the past? Does Teresa still need to apologize for her crimes?
