The recent tragedy in Orlando was a shock to everyone, as people everywhere were stunned that yet another mass shooting took place resulting in the loss of many innocent lives. Andy Cohen especially took the news hard, as he is a proud gay man who supports the LGBT community and often uses his Bravo platform to assist their causes.
While Watch What Happens Live is usually a light, funny show with cocktails and celebrities, Andy made sure to address the event as he was still in shock from the weekend’s tragedy:
Andy started the show with:
“Hey everybody, I’m Andy Cohen, live in the Bravo Clubhouse on what is yet another incredibly painful night for many Americans. The Pulse nightclub in Orlando, like other gay clubs, was a place where people went to not just feel like they could freely be themselves but to find community and safety. And to have that freedom shattered by the most deadly mass shooting in our country’s history is unfathomable. Tonight, our hearts are with the families and friends of those who were killed or injured.”
“This month is Pride Month for the LGBT community, and as we have been so brutally reminded today, it’s about more than parties and parades. It is also a celebration of our civil rights.”
“There are people who wish we did not exist, but we do, and it is with a great deal of pride that this gay American is going to try and put a smile on your face at the end of a sad day in this Clubhouse where everyone is welcome and everyone is loved.”
Andy also expressed his frustration on social media asking:
If we can’t get rid of guns can we please end homophobia?
I think Andy handled the whole ‘show must go on’ in a very classy manner.
Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victims.
How do you think Andy handled WWHL after the tragedy?
