Phaedra Parks has been in the spotlight lately for a series of unfortunate rumors and reasons: Apollo going to jail, Phaedra cheating, Apollo cheating, Phaedra feuding with Kenya, and Apollo and Phaedra’s divorce. Yesterday, she sat down with Ellen DeGeneres to set the record straight and publicly announce her divorce.
The attorney and mother of two looked beautiful and polished as she sat opposite the talk show host.
“So tell me what is going on? Tell me what’s happening with your husband,” Ellen began.
“Well, you know my husband pled guilty to fraud in federal court and he was sent to eight years in prison. And so, he reported to prison a few months ago,” Phaedra said.
“Did you have any idea?” Ellen asked.
“I really didn’t. I mean, I work. I just got my 5th college degree and so I am pretty much an over-achiever. I have two very small children. I just stopped breastfeeding three months ago and so I didn’t have any idea that any of this was going on until he called me and said ‘Hey. I’ve been arrested and I’m having this problem but it’s not true.’ So I went out of my way to get him the best attorneys, the best investigators and to do everything I could because I’m an attorney myself and so I wanted him to have the best so we could fight this together but obviously it did not turn out like that.”
Ellen nodded and then approached one of the tougher questions Phaedra will face. After all, this is not Apollo’s first time behind bars. “When you first met him, uh, he was on parole, right? So there was a flag there or no?” DeGeneres asked.
Phaedra took a moment, even allowing herself a laugh. “Well, to be honest, he had been to prison but he was a changed person. So the person I married I thought he was changed.”
“Mhm,” Ellen agreed, “And like you said, you have two small children. That’s got to break your heart. You make a decision to support this man and believe him and then now you find out he’s going to prison for eight years and you’re going to have to raise these babies by yourself which has got to be really hard.”
“It is extremely hard,” Phaedra responded, “My heart aches for my two sons because they are the heart and soul of who I am, you know. And that’s the best thing we ever did together. We have great kids and I never wanted to do anything to diminish his character in public. Um, but we’ve had some times where he’s done things that weren’t so cool, weren’t so nice.”
“So now you’ve decided to divorce him,” Ellen revealed.
“I have made that decision,” Phaedra nodded.
Then, Ellen addressed the cheating rumors that have surrounded their marriage, specifically the ones which accuse Phaedra of being unfaithful.
“I think it’s totally absurd to think I cheated. They’re saying I had an affair with a man from Africa named Chocolate. Now, everybody knows that I do love a Snickers bar every once in a while, but it’s definitely not a man from Africa that I’ve ever had an affair with. I mean, it’s just absurd. I think sometimes when people are hurting they do things to hurt other people. There’s been a lot of lashing out from Apollo.”
With everything she’s going through, Phaedra really presented herself well. It’s hard to believe she didn’t know what Apollo was up to, but then again the woman is BUSY. She’s a Real Housewife, a mother of two, and an attorney who just finished mortuary school. It’s not surprising that she’s kicking Apollo to the curb. Phaedra has never been one to let her emotions get the best of her and it’s great to see her do what’s best for her children. I hope that Apollo can get his act together and be as good a father as possible at this point.
What did you think of Phaedra’s interview with Ellen?
