EEK! I think its terrible to pit her against Melissa. It’s not fair to Gia mostly. Bravo is wrong for making it apear they are in competition with each other. Like it or not Melissa is her Aunt. Gia should never feel like shes in competition with her Aunt. But maybe im too old school.
Gia is definitely not in competition with her aunt because there is no comparison. Gia is a talented child, and MeHo is a talentless, lazy person.
The reason why I mentioned MeHo’s name was because Roxy jokingly said, “Maybe Gia can teach her aunt some dance lessons” which Gia wouldn’t because MeHo isn’t dedicated to anything, and that’s the truth! We all see that, and I’m sure she sees that deep down inside, but she’ll never admit it.

I think you’re right on target. I wish that people who really had this child’s best interest at heart didn’t think it was fair to compare her to an adult woman and use her to attack an adult. That’s pretty shady in my book. She’s a good dancer, not a great dancer, and she’s a CHILD. It would be nice to let her be one and not turn her into a bank account or an attack weapon. This is all that’s wrong when fame hungry adults can’t let their children have REAL childhoods.
I have to disagree. My daughter has danced for almost 30 years and now my granddaughter dances. Gia IS a great dancer; some people are just naturally gifted and Gia is one of them. Most of the girls my daughter danced with(including my daughter) would not look that good regardless of their training. My daughter’s school always took a yearly trip to the Jersey shore to dance on the boardwalk. It wasn’t that we were looking for our kids to be discovered or become a star. It was a fun thing to do and built a real comeraderie between the girls to vacation together. Our school did not believe in competitive dancing, they danced for the fun of it. It was a REAL childhood, doing something she loved, had nothing to do with bank accounts. I don’t believe Gia is being paid for any of these appearances, my daughter certainly wasn’t. In fact, it cost us a small fortune.
agree! My daughter has danced since she was 5 (she’s 25 now) and never once got paid until she got a job as a ‘party dancer’ at Bar/Bat Mitzvahs when she was in high school. She LOVED it, was good at it, and enjoyed performing. It’s just like little league baseball-you’re on a team, you practice, and you compete with other kids your own age. You can always tell when one of the kids has real talent because they stand out from the rest.

Yes they do look like girls in a rap video. This is not good for her. They should have on more clothes. I am a Tre supporter, but, I don’t like this at all. Young ladies should not dress like this. Its all dance though. If you look at a group of kid dancers who are performing a katie perry song the clothes are still the same amount of coverage. The fact that she is wearing clothes that are considered sexy everyday wear is what makes it appear less than others. I personally would not let my daughter wear shorts that short for any reason. This is typical summer wear for tweens. Hell, I grew up in the ’70′s and that’s pretty close to what we wore. Buster Brown skirts were that short and mid-drift shirts have been around since the ’40′s. WTF?

I remember when I was 10 in the 60′s we wore tops like this and a short midriff style called angel tops! Like the older women wore were they would stretch over your shoulders. Does anyone else remember them? Bellies always hung out! Our shorts were pretty short also but not cut- offs! And I was 10 when I was allowed to finally wear 2 piece bathing suits! My niece also dances she’s 9 and she wears these kind of clothes, she is always with an adult and it’s not like she is going to clubs at her age, or even trying to attract boys. And she does not wear this type of outfit to school either!

I may be a little old-fashioned, but this style of dance isn’t that great. I don’t see any acrobatic style.
That said, I can certainly see where Gia does indeed have tremendous natural talent and has also been coached well. I can see her evolving into the more awe-inspiring acrobatic type dancing (that you’d see on Broadway), and also probably getting a full college scholarship if she continues, which I totally believe she will.

Hmmm, perhaps I wasn’t clear. I KNOW it is not gymnastics. I am trying to think of the kind of dancing that is more acrobatic, and more demanding. The amazing physical performances you see from the final contestants on “So You Think You Can Dance.”

I think she would be great on broadway. I have a friend whos daughter has been in dance since age 3. She got a full 4 year scholorship to Notre Dame for dance. (local) The point is, she is going to an IVY League college and dance will be a minor while she get a full ride! Notre Dame full tution/room and board is probably 55k a year.
I hate to be a biatch but Notre Dame is not Ivy League, but is a top school. Ivy is only in northeast, Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, Penn, and Yale. And believe it or not the real designation was because it was the authentic conference between these school, later it was of academic excellence.
Kill me! I know I was a biatch! Notre Dame is exceptional and getting a free ride when it is $65k/yr is huge. Your friend’s daughter did a fantastic job! Plus aside from Yale they all suck in the performance arts. juliard does have a joint program with Columbia for a BFS/BA or BS.

Gia can dance and put some feeling into it. I also think Gia has stage presence. She has light eyes like Dina, she is going to grow up to be very pretty, and Gia has always had the performing bug.

In defense of the clothes, it is much easier for dancers to have outfits on that they can move in. If they have something that hinders their movement, it will affect the performance.
Yes, leotards will cover them up more and they still can move, but it looks like it’s mighty hot at the shore this time of year, and they would be very hot to wear and dance.

My niece is 12 and this is what they wear. Saying things like “I would not let my daughter out of the house dressed like that”. That’s a stupid ass thing to say. I don’t always agree with what my niece wears but, it’s important for many girls at this age to express themselves thru clothing and hair and make up. Okay, first of all just because someone disagrees with your opinion doesn’t make them a hater, for heaven’s sake. Second, these is a worthy debate that goes on constantly about the way young girls dress these days for many valid reasons, and there are many voices out there who decry the “sexy” factor in children’s clothing lines and the fact children are growing up and losing their innocence way too quickly. Behavioral studies have shown there is indeed a connection between the way kids dress and their behavior. Just because a lot of kids dress a certain way doesn’t necessarily make it RIGHT or make it appropriate for their age. I certainly don’t his opinion makes the poster a pervert or that he is looking at Gia/young girls with inappropriate ideas – he is just concerned, as are many, about the state of dress and undress we are seeing these days on young girls. This isn’t an issue that needs to go to the mat, so lighten up and let’s respect one another’s comments. Except ignore Samantha – she is enjoying sitting back, laughing at everyone who argues with her and insults her. Ignoring her is the ONLY way to get the best of her!

Janie, I can totally respect you however those clothes are “street” dancing clothes, hip hop clothes. That is what the kids these days are wearing to tear it up on the dance floor, if you will ! With dancing, less is more, or better.. not like a stripper, but times change just like fashion and this is whats in now!

I’m sorry everyone, and I understand this is professional dancing but the bottom line is, the shorts and halters are too short and way too sexy for an 11 year old. These are children and frankly, if you saw a woman walking down the street or even walk into a bar wearing those very same outfits, you know what you will think! I would not allow my 11 year old to dance (professional or not) to dance in those outfits, for everyone who is anyone to watch her. There are pedophiles out there and you can say I’m a prune, I’m paranoid but in reality, I would not let my daughter wear something like that. They are too exposed for children. Also, a child shaking her booty (or is it bootie?) like a Melissa Gorga, is not entertaining. It’s not normal. Not Normal and frankly, this is where the law should come down on dancing studios. What is the purpose of dressing children in skimpy outfits and have them shake their booty/booties? Look at the instructors who own these dancing studios. Do they use their studios as a front to expose children? I think so. These are children dancing like a Melissa Gorga in her heyday.

Rosalie, I couldn’t agree more. Not to beat a dead horse, but why do people want kids to grow up so quickly? I have seen no benefit to the kids to be dressing, dancing, and acting like adults; it is totally inappropriate. Just because something is “in style” doesn’t make it okay. My niece totally regrets the tatoo she got because it was “in style”. Melissa grew up with that “everyone look at me” attitude, and look at her: fame and attention is her obsession and she will do anything to get it. I read the instructor on Dance Moms went too far last season and dressed her girls (who seem really sweet and talented) in street-walker type outfits that horrified their mothers, but they went along w/ it because the instructor wanted the girls to have an “edge”. The judges gave them no placement at all because of inappropriate attire and dance moves: THANK YOU!!
