Sheree Whitfield Clears Up Getting Fired Rumors And Talks Life After RHOA

In her first interview since it was announced Sheree Whitfield won’t be returning to the Real Housewives Of Atlanta, Sheree tells Essence what really went down and explains why she won’t be returning to the show. She also talks about issues she had with the way she was being portrayed and updates us on ‘Chateau Sheree!’
ESSENCE.com: How do you respond to people who say that you were actually fired instead of quitting?
SHEREE: I don’t have a response to that. I could really care less because I know what happened. It was an amicable split. I was ready to move and I don’t need to explain myself to anybody. I am super happy and I’m moving in a different direction. This is what I know. I’m not about just being on a show bickering and fighting with women. There are big parts of my life that weren’t shown that I’m ready for everybody to see.
RHOA is so successful. Was it daunting to make the decision to leave?
Well, you know what, I had been thinking about it for a while. We don’t see the show until it airs, or a couple days before it airs. Even when we were taping, there were a few things I wasn’t happy with as far as how I was portrayed. I was going through some really tough things in my life and watching back and seeing how it affected not only my life, but also my kids’ lives, I made a decision that I didn’t want to be selfish. My kids come first.
Speaking of behavior on the show, is there somewhere you can take responsibility? The producers do put you in that situation, yes, but it’s still you doing it.
Definitely. You’re being put in situations with people you normally won’t be around. You’re doing the show, but at the same time, you can’t control the editing. It’s crazy, the negative stereotype that Black women get about this when it’s not a racial issue; it’s a gender issue. We’re very emotional beings — women period, not just Black women or White women or Italian women or Asian women. We’re all the same way. But unfortunately, [in] the Black community there’s always a microscope on what we do and that’s not fair because you have other shows like Jersey Shore — they’re getting drunk and fist fighting. Then you have Mob Wives and Housewives of New Jersey — they’re flipping tables. Everybody handles things differently. When you have women of other races doing it, they’re not boycotting them. I don’t think it’s fair the stereotype that they put on African-American women, or females period.
So why do you think people react like that to Black women on these shows?
I don’t know. We’re not here to represent the entire Black community.
Are you keeping in touch with any of your co-stars?
Actually I just saw Kandi last night. I wish all the girls the best. The ones that I like and the ones that I don’t like, I wish everybody the best.
How is construction on your new home, a.k.a. Chateau Sheree, going?
It’s going really great. You know, that takes time, and I want it done right. I don’t want nobody to come over, blow on it and it falls down.
Thoughts on what Sheree had to say? Will you miss her on the show?

I like Sheree, I do not think the past seasons portrayed her well. Or it can also be said that what she was experiencing was not making the kind of TV, Bravo wanted to air.
IMO after seeing what Bravo (ANDY) has done to both BH and especially NJ, it is not an insult to be severed from her contract. Marlo should never have been invited to film. She is an escort with a police record, she displayed herself throughout the season and especially on the Reunion as very consistent with the rumors that surrounded her.
NeNe has gone kinda wacky on ATL, but she made fun TV with both Kim and Sheree over the previous seasons. Just another example of how these shows wind down and aren’t as fun.
BH only took one season to self destruct. That speaks to the production decisions, not boring or uninteresting housewives.
That said,,, Sheree likes to live large and sometimes she ends up showing ppl her backside when her projects fall apart, like her clothing line and her house. Hope she does well,, because her children seem like they are moving forward in a positive light. I appreciated that they were not portrayed as troubled or kinda mouthy. More than most of the other kids on the HW show.
I agree. The HW franchise has gone down hill. Taylor, anyone??
I didn’t love Sheree but I didn’t hate her, either. I wish her well. Unfortunately three women rather shoot each other down, rather than lift each other up. Bummer.
Agreed. They need to recast the majority of the shows esp NJ and OC. Nj has gotten to be trashy and unwatchable and OC feels boring and played out. Atlanta needs a reboost as
well with less Marlo types. I’m excited for Dallas and Vancouver.
She sounds as delusional as Melissa now! Come on Sheree what else are you going to be doing????? are you still working on your clothing line from how many seaons ago??? B*tch by the time you get that up and running your sh*t will be out of style.
Oh yeah maybe you can ask NeNe for a job as her assistant, she seems very busy these days!! i bet that burns your jealous a**!!
I would like to ask Sheree how she can afford the upkeep on Chateau Sheree when she has no income? She is so delusional it’s ridiculous. And why even continue building a house that expensive when you have no job to pay for it?
Oh poor Sheree. The only thing I will miss is her catchphrases but I doubt Andy Cohen will let “who gonna check me, boo” die anytime soon!
Sheree…you’re full of crap. You started most of the fights because you thought if you caused drama you would remain on the show and you obviously need the money. Everyone knows that Bravo lets fired housewives say they left of their own accord…but the public is not stupid and can read between the lines. YOU WERE FIRED! Now move along with your phony, fake life.
Nope. I won’t miss her and I won’t miss her poor grammar.
She basically just said her behavior on the show affected her children. I’d be ashamed, too. Good Riddence!
Lies, Sheree, lies.
I do not believe she walked away from her only source of income.
I will always & forever love her line: “Whatever happened to um..customer service??” lol!!
LOL… yep.,, thats what I like about her,,, she did have some good catch phrases… ha ha ha
Yeah, she really had some good one liners and the way she delivered them was hilarious too.
And….
Sheree helped bring Kim & Kroy together! That’s pretty awesome.
I don’t think less of Sheree for dreaming big because one day it may pay off. It doesn’t matter if she’s failed a thousand times – it just takes the one time to succeed if she doesn’t give up. It’s too bad there are those on RHOA who would rub her face in failure rather than help her up. Sheree didn’t seem to have the heart for all the conflict, so maybe now she will be happier
