RHONY Recap: Vacation All I Never Wanted
Last week’s RHONY ended with a bitter taste left in the ladies’ mouths after Aviva got into it with Ramona and Sonya. Aviva had just arrived after braving the small plane ride with her husband Reid, and was upset that there was not a red carpet rolled out, balloons out, banners, etc. welcoming Aviva. Instead, she arrived to some skinny dippers. This week, the drama continues in St. Barths!
Aviva and Carole are having breakfast with their men and they decide to go to dinner together. Ramona and Sonja are seen having breakfast and talking about Aviva’s white trash comment to them. Apparently, the women are unaware of what the definition of “white trash” is so they take to their iPad to figure just what this awful name means.
Carole comes into Ramona and Sonja’s room and they continue with the “this is supposed to be a girls only trip” drama. They are upset that there’s men in the house to change the dynamic. Aviva overhears the conversation and storms in ready to shut Ramona and Sonja down. Aviva rambles on about how she wanted a banner that said Welcome Aviva! and continues to complain about their ungracious welcome. At this point, the trip seems ruined. Aviva calls Ramona a phony and basically tells her she is not a good friend.
The women continue to argue about Ramona not being sorry, and Aviva comes to the conclusion that they didn’t want Reid there so there weren’t any witnesses to the “atrocious behavior” that was going down. The ladies talk about putting this all behind because it’s not good for anyone, and they all head out to lunch.
Carole attempts to end this drama once and for all, but she is more sympathetic towards Aviva and Sonja does not appreciate it. Luann, Sonja and Ramona all leave the table and Heather, Carole and Aviva stay behind. Aviva begins to talk about the small pane ride and Heather chimes in about the landing of the plane.
Carole is in tears because of her past experience with small planes in which she lost her friends. She leaves the table and goes to the shops, and not a single person follows her to check if she’s alright! How rude of them. She brought them on this trip and no one is checking to see if she’s okay while the woman is clearly in tears, but Aviva is making a scene over not having had a welcoming party?!
Heather calls out Aviva on making the trip all about herself and this made me love her. She is clearly over the BS and hearing about Aviva and her anxieties all the time! Kudos to Heather for shutting her up! Food is served and now it’s Aviva’s turn to take Carole away from the table. Aviva wants to check on Carole and they discuss that the small plane talk brought back awful memories. They stop by a pedicure shop where fish eat the callouses from your feet. So strange yet kind of cool! (Does Aviva get 50% off? I’m sorry! Couldn’t help myself…)
Back at the lunch table, Heather is informed of Aviva and Carole’s double date tonight. She becomes upset for being excluded along with the three other women and not knowing of these plans. She confronts Aviva and Carole and storms off back to the house, very upset about what this trip has become. Honestly, I can see why she is upset and I would be upset too if my friends made their own plans on a trip we were all supposed to be on together. Heather retreats to the beach and Carole comes to find her and talk to her, which Heather really appreciates. Carole invites her to the no-longer-a-double-date dinner and they go for a swim. It’s so nice to see s nice friendship developing in contrast to the frenemy vibes from everyone else!
Back at home, Sonja is in the kitchen flirting with one of the butlers and Aviva walks in. They rehash the “girls only trip” tired and over dramatic topic AGAIN and it just ends in Aviva calling Sonja a double dealing, two faced person. Sonja is obvious upset that Aviva keeps insulting her and quite frankly I don’t know why Aviva is so upset at her. I feel bad that Sonja is being packaged along with Ramona and not being treated fairly.
Carole plans a spa day for the next day and the ladies prepare for Russ’s concert at night. After dinner, Ramona and Sonja ditch the ladies and skip out on the concert. When the ladies arrive at the house for a farewell dinner, they come home to a drunken Ramona and Sonja who are being so rude and annoying. Stumbling everywhere and leaving the table they go upstairs to pack and talk about how boring the other girls are.
After a little while, everyone has dinner and Heather jumps into the pool, followed by all except Ramona and Sonja who for once look like the prudes of the group. Sonja strips down and jumps in, followed by Heather pushing Ramona into the pool which I imagine is one of the best feelings in the world.
Next week the ladies are back in The Big Apple and it’s safe to say that this trip has changed all the relationships between the women, so it’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the season plays out. How did you feel about this episode? Do you think Aviva went overboard again, or were outbursts warranted? Do you think Sonja is being lumped in with Ramona or are they both to blame for Aviva’s lashing out?

In my opinion Sonja an Ramona are exactly the same but Ramona is a little more blatant and Sonja is a little more passive aggressive. Sonja tries to act like she doesn’t do anything buthe says the same stuff Ramona does. I happen to think the 2 of them make the show entertaining. Started out like Aviva and now I don’t like her at all. Started out not like heather and now I like her a lot. I glad to see the relationship between heather and Ramona softened up! Luann has been boring as hell. I like Carole’s ability to generally stay neutral an see the craziness for what it is….instead of adding to it.
Heather and Carole are the ONLY normal ones on that vacation!!!
Everyone one else are just NUTS!!!
I’m starting to like Heather. She softened up on this vaca. I continue to not like Aviva at all. She is very full of herself & definitely thinks she is better than everyone else. I mean she did go to Vasser. What really bothers me about her is that she holds her opinion of herself very high but her & Reid were the ones resorting to immature name calling. She also thinks her fathers behavior is fine but Sonja flirting or having sex with a man is wrong??? Aviva is full of shit. Her husband calling the other women fat was beyond rude. Really Reid??? Aviva is supposedly 40? Well so am I & she looks like she could be my mother. She looks older than Ramona.
Sonja at times uses Ramona as her scapegoat when she is just as guilty.
Also Aviva & her Rush Limbaugh comment made me want to puke. She’s very smug.
I was always a defender of Ramona, but I was disappointed to notice through whole trip that none of the ladies realized they were there to celebrate with and for Carole. Aviva is one hell of a mess. I loved when Sonja said” your ass, you will see where it ends up”, LOL!
Avia is a condescending, self absorbed snob!!!!I think she hates Sonja for being with Harry….
Then she hate LuLu then too because Lu swam in that water too, LOL. Lu seems to be quite a player lately !
I wish somebody would have blabbed when the classy Countess Pumpkin Head did the dirty with Harry.
Aviva knows!!! When the season first started, she met with Lu out in the park or something. Lu told her a tidbit, and also at Sonja’s party in the beginning it was mentioned around Aviva or by Aviva, that both of them had “went out” with him..
LuAnn, Sonja and Ramona were equal participants in the “what do we do with Reid” conversation. If one is guilty, they all are. When the women were skinny-dipping, Ramona put her top on while Sonja did not. Sonja was the one who got frisky with the locals, not Ramona. Ramona, unlike LuAnn and Sonja, publicly apologized to Aviva for the under-performing welcome when Aviva arrived. So exactly, why is Ramona considered by anyone, even the unstable Aviva, the villain in the piece?
Not that I think any of the three deserve to be vilified for a harmless discussion about the dynamics of one couple’s impact on a singles trip. Carole’s boyfriend was in St. Barth’s, but he was not staying at the house, so despite the assertion that it was not a “girl’s trip”, it was a girl’s trip until Aviva brought her human prosthesis.
I am impatient with Aviva. She would be difficult to have as a friend unless she she handed you a card with her hello hug letting you know whether you are dealing with Independent or Helpless Aviva that day. Independent Aviva gets annoyed if you mention her prosthesis, her anxieties, her struggles because she does not want to be seen as handicapped. She is handi-capable, she is. But beware of blithely treating her like anyone else, because she could be Helpless Aviva. When Helpless Aviva is around, her anxieties, concerns and struggles are the only consideration and the only topic of conversation allowed. Helpless Aviva must be forgiven her emotional outbursts and angry slurs because she’s beset by anxiety. Everyone must be compassionate and understand her special struggle because no one else struggles. Just Aviva.
Oddly, there’s another duality to Aviva that waxes and wanes with her personas – her attitude toward sexuality. Independent Aviva laughs and goes along with her hyper-sexualized father whose presenile dementia seems to have damaged his impulse control. Independent Aviva thinks her father pressing his penis against her friends is funny. Semi-incentuous badinage is just hilarious and vulgar verbal assaults at the dinner table are just too funny. A senior citizen sexually harassing uninterested middle age women is just so cute to Independent Aviva.
Helpless Aviva is offended by women skinny-dipping and sex acts between two unmarried, uncommitted consenting adults. A middle aged woman flirting with and enjoying a 30-something man is too gross for words and drinking and flirting and dancing on tables is debauchery. It’s funny how she exempts LuAnn from her condemnation – given that LuAnn was the one who dragged Tomas to the house, but consistency is not Helpless Aviva’s strong point. She’s so much more angry at Ramona than Sonja, though Sonja was actually much more in her face. She complete excuses LuAnn though LuAnn uttered the magic words that made her livid – “change the dynamic.” Inconsistency and helplessness – she needs a warning label.
One of the most revealing things about this episode, though, was Sonja. Sonja has acquired an unfair reputation as Ramona’s puppet and follower. I had fallen into that false assumption, too. However, we see on St. Barth’s that Sonja is no puppet. She ignored Ramona’s urging to chalk up Aviva’s upset to nerves from the flight and to let it all go. She was angry all on her own with no urging from Ramona.
And then of course, Aviva apologized all over her blog. Though did she really? She has not apologized to the two she has wronged the most. In recent media articles and interviews, she’s as vicious and angry as she ever was. It’s bizarre that both Independent and Helpless Aviva are incapable of recognizing that she grievously wronged Ramona and Sonja – and both Avivas continue to do so.
This is just an outstanding analysis of the situation. People keep falling into the ‘it’s unfair that Sonja is getting lumped in with Ramona’ trap – but the thing is, Ramona didn’t really do anything to begin with. None of them did! Unless Aviva truly believes no one is allowed to have an opinion about or discuss the changing dynamics of the trip. Which, hello, the moment Aviva and Reid arrived, guess what? The dynamics changed. Shocker! I started out liking Aviva, but I now realize she is a nut bag. And you’ve described to a tee her crazy inconsistencies.
Agree with you both!! I was wondering also what anyone did , especially wondering why Ramonja caught the ultimate unwarranted freakout!
100% agree Cajsa!!
Your description of the events and personalities is spot on. Can you do this every week with every HW’s show???
Did Aviva go overboard.unfortunatly not..she is just beyond obnoxious.Heather is now my favorite..
i read all the ladies blogs and when carole left the table to go cry after thinking about her friends deaths the other ladies weren’t there and didnt know about it. in ramona’s blog she said when she came back she saw carole walking away and crying and she went to console her but carole wanted to be left alone. so it wasn’t rudeness that kept the women from approaching carole. it was carole that wanted to be alone.
ramona and sonja didn’t do anything wrong talking amongst themselves about reid joining them. it was a girls trip, that is why nobody invited their spouses. even carole called it a “girls trip” or “girls time”. if it wasn’t for luanns big mouth and telling aviva what they were talking about then the huge arguments wouldn’t have had happened. they were nice to reid and thanked him. it’s ridiculous that aviva got so angry and expected eveyone to bow down to them as if they were royal people.
ru: Yes! And I caught that also. I do not recall Carole telling anyone on the way there, did not tell the girls, but did she end up telling Heather? Why include or invite everyone when its only 1 person you keep yourself with? The whole trip was a hot mess, but I did feel bad for Carole that no one recognized her finishing book and whatever else she wanted to be there for.
