LuAnn De Lesseps Doesn’t Apologize For Using The Term Indian; Talks Mario Confronting Jacques
RHONY star LuAnn De Lesseps took to her blog to defend using the term ‘Indian’ and explains that Carole has taken every opportunity to criticize her. LuAnn also talks Mario confronting Jacques and thinks he could have done it privately!
“Lately, Carole never seems to miss an opportunity to criticize me. Have you noticed that when I say “tomato” she says “tomahto”? She never seems to pass up an opportunity to put me down and I’m while I’m trying to be polite and friendly, I do have my limits.
Let the facts speak for themselves. The US Census Bureau surveyed people of various races and what they liked to be called and over 49 percent of American Indians preferred to be called American Indian while 37 percent said that Native American was their preference. Furthermore, the museums dedicated to American Indian heritage in Washington D.C. and New York City are both called the Museum of the American Indian. I think the Indian people have spoken and Carole doesn’t seem to be listening.
When I watched the scene where Mario confronts Jacques, I was impressed by Jacques’ graciousness and composure. Couldn’t Mario have found a more private moment to tell Jacques how he felt about the wine tasting? Jacques reiterated to Mario that the event was called “wine games”. . .it was supposed to be a fun event and Ramona seemed to enjoy herself — until her husband made a big deal about the games being a set-up. At this point, I’m tired of discussing the wine event. . .time to move on”
Thoughts on what LuAnn had to say? Do you think Mario should have confronted Jacques differently? Should LuAnn apologize for using the term ‘Indian?’

I have many friends and family that are members of the Apache nation and they themselves concurred with what Luann said that its per your preference. Carole has a point that it is politically correct but as long as your not using it in a derogatory way i think she is fine and making a mountain out of a mole hill

There is nothing wrong with American Indian. In fact, it actually PC. We have organization, government branches, associations, college funds, meetings, and courses of study at Universities all as American Indian.
Additionally, addressing a Lakota you say Lakota Indian. Now, we know that Indians are in India, but a designation that is over 620 years is now part of the common venacular. Should we no longer say slave because it is derogatory to the Slavic people. Slave comes from the word Slav which is early designation for the Slavic people. The Romans and Greeks coined the word slave.
Great point! And, “Indian” is a derivative of “indigenous,” meaning original people, plants and animals to a region. American Indians are indigenous people of this continent.

Actually, Indian is from the word India (Greek word – meaning people of the area of the Indus river) while indigenous is from Latin (indigenus) so they’re not derivative. The word Indian the way Luann is using it did not exist until Columbus’ famous mistake.

I believe LuAnn is correct about the term American Indian being appropriate. I think Carole was just trying to embarrass her at dinner with her OTT reaction. How many times did she mention “even 3rd graders know not to say Indian!”? I mean, come on Carole, give it a rest.
Mario is just as big of drama queen as Ramona, so no surprise he confronted Jacques in front of other dinner guests and while the camera was rolling. Jacques handled the situation well, IA.
Too bad nobody confronted Jacques over calling Indians savages.

Luann has done nothing but cause rifts and criticize everyone else as she believe she was above everyone on the show since she came on. Now that someone else besides Ramona gives it back to her, she is over it?

I really like Carole but I think Luann has a point here. For some reason Luann really gets under her skin and she does seem to find reasons to pick at her. I’m not a huge fan of Luann but every time Carole calls her “pumpkin head” i feel like I like Carole a little less. I really want to like her though! I hope she doesn’t slip over to the mean girl side.
yeah I BET Luann thinks Mario should have confronted Jacques privately-however, Jacques tried to embarrass Ramona very publicly so I think it was just fine for Mario to chastise Jacques just as publicly.

Michers made a good point to me because i felt the same way that mario could have confronted them in private and not at dinner with everyone but this is a reality show were they are making entertainment. Of course he is going to call him out in public LOL.
I agree. They tried to embarrass Ramona on camera so I’m glad Mario called him out on camera. Pumpkin Head and Pal should have both apologized. They were wrong.
I like both Launn and Carole! I think that all the changes Bravo did in the casting was great! These girls can show lot of interesting point of views of NY as they can show drama! Not missing any of the past cast members at all!
It would not surprise me if Andy Cohen and Carole have hung out socially in NYC and Andy said he would get her on the show to plug her book if she went after Luann. It just seems passive aggressive. Oh and Carole, put down whatever pills your taking and lose the headphones already.
I think Carole was right to call out LuAnn. She’s pompous and phony, and not a real Countess either. And she talks about being Native American all the time, but when Jacques called them “savages”, she said nothing, and even helped make fun of them with the woo woo woo hand over her mouth. She didn’t want to be the “minority” telling these people to STFU, so she joined in and made fun. That tells me all I need to know about LuAnn.
I think the “manly” thing to do for Mario was to stick up for his wife in public. Nasty trick…………..as Mario said..what if Ramona said something like “eww this stinks”. That is what I am sure Jacque & luanne wanted.

I don’t remember word for word, but something about raping and burning down your house??? Maybe I heard her incorrectly, but that’s what it sounded like to me (but I may have been drunk since I kind of have to be to watch this show anymore!).
Again LuAnn demonstrates her lack of culture and education. There is only one race, the human race! However, there are many different ethic groups such as Native Americans, etc.
I am not nor have I ever been impressed with “The Countess” and think she’s about as two faced and fake as they get. She’s always putting others down and if she thinks I’m impressed with her adding “darling” to whatever insult she has to say, I’m not. She’s worse than any of them because she talks a lot about manners and etiquette blah blah bity blah but she’s a BIG PHONY!
I can’t stand her royal pumpkin head. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE that Carole has joined the show and calls it like it is. Luann is spiteful, self centered and embarrassingly hypocritical. The woman reeks of desperation on the show (agree w/Carole that she’s a friend jumper) and I’d wish she’d gotten the boot last season. She’s a wanna be and her actions and comments on the show make it glaringly apparent.
I thought it was comical that she felt she was better suited to give business advice than Ramona.
And please, please, please, never make me hear her sing again.
